I'd bet that the ones who are holding out for a full retraction and a big time firing are Viacom's securities lawyers. Can you say Sarbanes-Oxley? Can you say material event that might adversely affect the value of the stock? Can you say 8-K? '34 Act?

Two perfect quotes from that movie...the first can apply to Kerry as well:

The second quote, which seems to be SeeBS's response to the whole thing:
"...if I were human, I believe my response would be...'GO TO HELL'...if I were human."
Don't you see? That was part of the dramatic presentation.
It was an "authenic replica" of the signature. For dramtic purposes, of course.
How about this one: "The man you saw on 60 minutes was not Dan Rather, but was instead an impersonator. The show tapes were switched at the last minute by some devious infiltrator."

I saw one of the docs I download (PDF) had the CBS fax info across the very top...I can't find it again now. It had a date/time. Did anybody else see this? The docs on CBS' site now don't have it.

They're going to release a memo, backed up by a medium, who will hold a seance to divine the spirit of LtCol Killian. Killian's voice will sound remarkably like Dan Rather, who will not be present.

As public trustees, broadcasters may not intentionally distort the news. Broadcasters are responsible for deciding what their stations present to the public. The FCC has stated publicly that "rigging or slanting the news is a most heinous act against the public interest." The FCC does act to protect the public interest where it has received documented evidence of such rigging or slanting.
