VATICAN CITY -- When European Union leaders gather in Rome to sign their new constitution, they will be rebuffing Pope John Paul II and his effort to acknowledge Christianity in the historic document.
The Roman Catholic pontiff has often voiced concern about Europe's increasingly secular society, and with Friday's signing of a constitution that does not acknowledge Europe's religious history, the Vatican sees proof that the EU is distancing itself from Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular.
The drafters of the constitution have made it clear for months that they would ignore the pope's tireless 21/2-year campaign for explicit Christian recognition in the constitution's preamble. Earlier this week came a second blow. Opposition within the European Parliament blocked confirmation of an Italian candidate for commissioner of justice and security who was criticized for his conservative views on homosexuality and marriage, which mirror church doctrine.

The Bible mentions three important requirements to establish the Antichrist’s kingdom:
1) World government- (Revelation 13:7):
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them:
and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
(Daniel 7:23)-Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon
Earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole
Earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
2) Global capitalism- (Revelation 13:16, 17):
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive
a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell,
save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
3) World religion- (Revelation 13:3, 4, 8):
And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was
healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon
which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast saying, Who is like
unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And all that dwell upon the earth
shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain
from the foundation of the world.
ISRAEL
Israel is the major player in the last days’ events. The fact that the Jewish people are
back in the land after having been scattered to every corner of the globe for almost two
thousand years, is a miracle. Israel’s return to her homeland in 1948 is one of the most
significant prophetic fulfillments in all of world history. First, it completed God’s
promise to both scatter and then regather Israel (Ezekiel 36:24):
For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and
will bring you into your own land.
In 1967, Israel recaptured the city of Jerusalem. It was the first time that Jerusalem was
back in Jewish hands since 70 A. D. The fact that these things are happening at the
present has great significance, because the prophets have told us that these things would
come to pass at a very specific time- namely, the time of the end (Ezekiel 38:8):
That's what I thought when I read this. Isn't it Malachi that predicted this also, and that the anti-Christ would come from this nw entity.

Not till they appoint Otto von Hapsburg, prominent Euro Politician and heir the the throne of the Holy Roman Empire to be President.

Exactly when the Anti-Christ sets a Peace treat between the Arabs and Israel we know that we are truly at the end of this way of life..

Heck, isn't the path taken by the EU pretty close to where the Church is headed? When someone takes a stand for Christianity - President Bush - the Church doesn't support him. When Catholics ask the "princes" of the Church to reenforce the Church's stand on homosexuality and abortion, all we get is PC. I'm not surprised that the EU disregards the Church because the Church will eventually "come around" to their way of thinking. They've done it before!
Much as July 4, 1776 will be remembered as America's Independence Day, October 29, 2004 will be remembered as the day the final empire that would rule the earth prior to Christ establishing His kingdom signed its Constitution which seems to declare the European Union's independence from God Himself. Strange what little attention this is getting on FR today.
The document is a very strange "constitution" because it is much less concerned with basic rights and far more about eccentric politically correct legislation. The EU is not a state and therefore the term charter might apply better than constitution. But it has serious pretensions of becoming a super state and thus the word "constitution." If they really wanted to copy the US model on basic freedoms and rights and become a true "United States of Europe" then that could be a hopeful sign. But that is not what they are doing. The big socialist governments are trying to make smaller new governments pay for the old welfare state. Euro or no euro, the EU is not a good bargain for a country that loves God and freedom.
That's special. The article does not say anything about rebuilding the Roman Empire.

But the Lord's plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.
Yeah, I do. He is experienced, well liked and respected, and has a certain 'Historical Inevitability' that the Euro-Weenies think will make a United States of Europe look like something other than a burocratic frraud.
