Bush revives bid to legalize illegal aliens
Washington Times ^ | November 10, 2004 | Bill Sammon

President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.

The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

If they are citizens then they enjoy the same right to benefit eligibility as anyone else. It's that darned pesky DOI Preamble which horrendously states that "all men are created equal."

Very crafty move to fly this under the SPECTER radar....

And the Social Security Totalization Agreement is flying under the "Amnesty Plan" radar, which is flying under the Specter radar...

Why do I never get an answer to the above question?>>

because I was at lunch?

The fact that many day laborers stand around looking for day labor (duh) has absolutely no bearing on whether or not they are marginally employed.

The fact is, before the great society programs of the 60's I used to ride with my dad down to a designated spot in our home town to pick up day laborers then, as well. Unemployment was under 6% during those times. Unemployment is under 5.4% now.

Your arguemnt will have validity when and ONLY WHEN you see immigrants stop coming because (fanfare) PEOPLE ONLY COME TO LOOK FOR JOBS WHEN THERE ARE JOBS TO BE HAD. If there was no work for them, they would not waste the time and energy to get here, just like I am not going to move to Uzbekisatan looking for a $250,000 a year job managing a widget factory. Why? CAUSE IT AIN'T THERE. Now, if there were an ABUNDANCE of jobs paying a quarter of a mil over there, I might think about moving. So with Mexicans. They will quit coming when there are no more jobs to be had. Since most Mexicans are poor, poorly educated and unable to do highly trained specialties, they will continue to dominate the construction trades, the lower paid service jobs, and the like.

Then don't. You are free to engage in moneyless barter all you want to.

I was about to note that CBG's "mandate" comment at #55 was the most idiotic on this thread so far, but, once again, you came in and took the top spot.

CJ, I am honestly tired of ERs closing, gangs tagging up my neighborhood, and half my city looking like Little TJ. Why is that ok to some FReepers? Why should some of us be forced to live like this so that others can get cheap labor?

Sounds like your problem is with graffitti and ER funding, not with legal or undocumented immigration. Maybe some people like to seek out excuses for their unhappiness; who knows?

The ERs are closing because of illegals using them as clinics and not paying the bills. The graffitti is done by illegal gangs.

Please tell me how this is worth you getting cheap lettuce?

And they are illegal immigrants, not the PC undocumented workers. They came here illegally. Don't try to hide that.

It strikes me that one of the major problems for California and the US in general is George Bush.

Someone, and I know not who, has simply got to convey some plain old common sense to 41 before he torpedoes our values and our culture.

They grow a lot of lettuce in LA, apparently, and visas somehow magically ward off graffitti artists and the medically-uninsured.

We do not need anymore of them. Vicente Fox and his cronies want the U.S. to take care of their poor for them.

I'm not sure if your use of "you" and "your" was aimed at me, but if it was, you are misguided.

I don't give a shi* about treating them humanely. I was responding to another post that was trying to discover any logic in these decisions. If you look at the situation from a political viewpoint, you can understand their motivation, as wrong as it might be.

Actually, I am interested why Bush favors hispanic "immigrants" over all others? I can find nothing that points to a reason for this favoratism.

BUSH: I see it as a serious problem. I see it as a security issue, I see it as an economic issue, and I see it as a human-rights issue.

The part about human rights will be used to negate all the other stuff. Bush is hell bent on letting as many hispanics as possible into this country. Why? I wish I knew.

"I feel so dirty"

In all seriousness, this seems to be such a dumb move. Perhaps he thinks their support gave him a bigger % of votes. And then the Spectre thing... Why isn't President Bush spending his poltical capital with the democrats, rather than us? All I can say is - what on earth is this guy thinking?

Why? I wish I knew.

Congressman Tancredo has hit upon the reason:

"You have to understand that there are people who are committed to the elimination of the concept of nation-states, for all intents and purposes."

Ain't no bigger government than global government.

The only way we can make an impact is to not hire Mexican illegals. ALL Mexicans are illegal until a sure proof method is instated to prove otherwise. I'm sure THAT would hit the headlines and Senior Bush would have address it.
