It's not just British, it's the friggin DAILY MIRROR - they have some of the most deranged kind of leftists to be found this side of Chairman Mao. They are a far-left tabloid-style publication that specializes in any drivel that attacks the USA. They loved Peter Arnett, by the way, and offered him a column back in April '03 when he had so humiliated himself with his "the US offensive has stalled" propaganda. Nothing from the Daily Mirror could ever be trusted, though some Euro-twits may not realize that...

It's been known to happen that someone could be holding a grenade, they arrest him, the grenade goes off and kills 2 or 3 people. We don't know all of the facts, what we do know is that these people are terrorists.

I wonder if the press realizes their responsibility in the deaths of many of these and future combatants. It's a simple formula.

Let's take this as an example, but we could pick any one of the hundreds of negative press releases about the war in Iraq.

Both men are in a combat zone. The Iraqi (or foreign fighter) is shot and injured. As a marine approaches, the Iraqi makes a suspicious movement and is shot dead.

The press reports the incident as though the Iraqi is helpless on the ground and asks the reader, through implication, that the Iraqi terrorist was neutralized and the marine shot and killed him in cold blood.

The story is picked up in the Arab world, and sparks outrage. Some are so angry that they take up arms.

Yosseff Q. Public picks up an AK-74 and thinks it'd be a good idea to kill American GIs in retribution. In turn, he is shot dead.

Slanted reporting costs lives on both sides. However, I don't think that the MSM is all too interested in how many Middle Easteners are zapped or the allied bodycount. It appears that, more so now than I have ever seen, that the press gets off on shaping world events. Everyone wants to leave their thumbprint on world history.

Have we forgotten the importance of propaganda during a military campaign? An effective propagandist would make sure the war looks like smiles and sunshine to people home and abroad and keep the ugliness of it all (as much as possible, anyway) in the combat zone.

I think that the embedded reporter idea is a complete and total wash. I understand that the US was interested in having reporters around while they conducted a "civil" of was as possible, but in war is death, in death is emotion, and in emotion is bias.

Send the reporters home.

Yes, let's have the terrorist kill our guy, then capture him, so that he stays in a prison we pay with our taxes. I'd rather use my tax dollars in a salary increase for the guy.

Seems pretty simple to me: If you want to rescue someone, you send a medic. If you want him killed, you send a soldier or Marine. As someone used to post on Lucianne: ''The only good terrorist savage beast is a dead terrorist savage beast.'' And may God forgive me for thinking this way.

I don't see a problem with killing the ENEMY. It wasn't cold blooded as the article states. If he is shooting to kill ME I am going to kill him first and ask questions later!!

It was no big deal. Some dirtbag got what he had coming.

It is a big deal... if it's true. That (if anything) is what should be focused on. I'd wager that it is not, so I think it is best just to ignore it. But I'm not sure why everyone here is trying to defend these alleged actions.

I have friends and family serving in the military, and trying to justify an American serviceman killing a downed man is quite honestly insulting to them. They are professionals, are men and women over there are better than this. Admittedly it isn't nearly as insulting as faking incidents, which has clearly been done often and quite possibly in this case, but insulting just the same.

I'm sure no one here means to do that... but don't let crap like this alter your view of our military. If this happened (a big big if) it was an isolated incident and it will be handled accordingly.

email the bastard that put the story out:

"This is not Viet Nam and you in the media do not have the power to influence events the way you think you do. You and the leftist MSM have been exposed as a fraud. Good riddance to you. Long live the truth and long live the Marine corp."

I'll reserve judgement until we get a more official story.

That said, I saw on the news some story about a Marine being indicted after slugging a terrorist prisoner biting him or some such. Proper protocol is a two-way street; if some terrorist in custody assaulted me, I'd put my foot up his ass without a second thought. Negative reinforcement works.

What would Joe Journalist do if a jihadi assaulted him? Stand there with a "please sir, may I have another" expression on his face? Puh-lease.

What's left out. Did the Iraqi have a gun still in his hand? Was he searching for a grenade to throw? Did we see the whole scene without a break? Who was filming? Why were they filming? For what purpose? Did our guy fire over the wall not being sure if the Iraqi was armed? Had the Iraqi been firing at our guys?

He looked exactly like a suicide bomber to me.

As a combat infantryman I have more than a little resentment about the dual standards. If the Coup de Gras had been delivered from an F18 or a howitzer there would be no uproar.

THIS IS A BLOODY OUTRAGE!

I watched the video. There is nothing to even remotely suggest that there was anything even there. The marine appears to fire off a round somewhat aimlessly straight ahead, not down on ground. He wasn't even aiming. Perhaps just a parting shot or something. Watch the video. To me it seems like the words "he's gone" refers to the fact that the insurgent LEFT.

This newspaper is deliberately inciting violence. This can not be tolerated! Whoever is in charge of that newspaper deserves to have his nuts kicked in.
