Intoxicated mother held in deaths of 2 unfed tots

ASSOCIATED PRESS

November 17, 2004

KENT, Wash. – A woman with a history of child neglect complaints was arrested, while in a drunken stupor, after her two young boys were found dead in their apartment of malnutrition and dehydration, authorities said.

Police entered the apartment of Marie Robinson, 36, in the Seattle suburb of Kent after the children's paternal grandmother said she was unable to contact Robinson. Officers found the bodies of Justice W. Robinson, 16 months, in a crib, and Raiden A. Robinson, 7 weeks, in a bassinet.

Their mother was passed out from alcohol intoxication, lying in bed with covers over her head, prosecutors said. A third Robinson boy, 2 years old, appeared to be undernourished, said Officer Paul A. Petersen. The boy was checked and placed in the care of the grandmother.

Robinson was arrested for investigation of child mistreatment and second-degree murder. A judge set her bail at $2 million Tuesday. Prosecutors have until tomorrow to file charges.

Medical examiners classified both deaths as homicides. Authorities have not said how long the children had been dead.

The woman's attorney, Colleen O'Connor, said Robinson has been distraught and confused since her arrest Sunday. "She can't stop crying, and she's shaking," O'Connor said.

State records show Robinson was investigated on complaints of child neglect in October 2003 and February this year. Two complaints in September 2002 were considered not serious enough for an investigation.

I pray God forgives me for thinking about what I would like to do to this woman.

Go ahead and think, as I believe that would fall under righteous anger. Can't wait to hear what my wife's going to contemplate when I tell her about this.

Bail isn't high enough. She should rot in jail.

This is a senseless tragedy! Since the authorities had been contacted about the "mom" before, there is simply no excuse for heartbreaking outcome.

I have an extended family member going through a divorce from his drug-addicted wife. Her own parents, as well as others, have written and spoken to the state's department of family services about her negligence toward their three children and her drug addiction. The department called her on the phone, after she had failed to appear for a number of drug tests and interviews, asked her if she uses drugs or has ever used drugs. She replied, "Oh no! I don't use drugs." Case was closed. She'll probably get joint custody.

BTW, she's pregnant again, with twins, by her dealer.

OOOooohhh. . . I feel so sorry for her!

No doubt she is blameless.

It's all Bush' s fault!

It shoulda took a village!

Her kids were weaklings anyway!

Boo...Hoo! She is completely blameless!

Her neighbors are all at fault for not helping!

Sue the alcohol manufacturers!

Close all the bars!

Give her two more kids (at taxpayer expense, to be sure) so that she can show us how well she can do "next time"!

It the fault of social services!

Have the government give the poor dear some money for "food"! Lots of money! Taxpayer money can cure everything!

Give the poor dear a congressional medal for putting up with two sniveling brats - after all, they drove her to drink!

And so it goes!

How tragic. How sad for the older boy, losing his siblings and his mother. How sad is addiction.

>>Robinson was arrested for investigation of child mistreatment and second-degree murder<<

Second-degree murder? Incredible but believable in a nation where children are not even second-class citizens.

Okay, am I the only one here who thinks these monsters who can't get a grip on their on lives and kill their young should be neutered?!!! We do that in compassion to cats and dogs, and just let children be murdered by sub-humans who haven't any business having kids!!! Not PC, but come on, why must they keep being able to breed!

Unbelieveable horror. You know there are countless other similar abominations all over the world. There is plenty of blame all around. The overloaded systems that are supposed to keep these things from happening just don't work and the broken family ravaged by alcoholism spiraled into abysmal hoplessness. The victims never had a chance in this world. I wonder what kind of person the surving child will become...

This is one of the saddest stories I've ever read. I had to close my office door so I could cry.

So did I.

This is just another tragedy in a long, long line of abuse allowed by this agency. Christine Gregoire the current AG of this state should be jailed for incompetence for the actions of DSHS.

She's within 19 votes of becoming our next governor. Under her watch we've had the Wenatchee Sex trials that falsely accused many innocent people, OK Boys Ranch where the counselors and older boys preyed on the venerable for 10 + years, Bremerton group foster home that did the same and too damn many individual cases that I don't have the time to list, (probably wouldn't believe me because the high numbers of victims of the abuses from this agency, anyway).

This agency will not be repaired anytime soon since this is a "blue" state in the populous counties that control the results of elections, anyway. Sad.

Of course that is what a heartless conservative would say. What about her rights?

May I suggest the sterilization instrument?

"and failed by the government beast set up to protect them if the parent failed. "

beyond that...the govt forbids you or me from interferring in "their" business....

my impression of DSHS is that there are many arrogant know it alls in their bunch and God forbide if one of us peasants steps on their toes or gives them suggestions.....

in better times, a kindly neighbor would have walked over there and just taken these babies home with him/her without so much of a thought about waiting for the "proper" agencies.......

Certainly the child-welfare system will (and should) come in for its share of blame. But to stop there would be to miss the real villains in this case.

These children were casualties of the Sexual Revolution that began in the 1960s. The revolutionaries preached sexual gratification without responsibility, seeking to turn sex into just another kind of recreational activity with no moral significance. No reason to worry about consequences, they said: the Pill would prevent conception; if that failed, there was always abortion.

Anyone who objected was called a prude, a religious fanatic, or worse. The only social sin was judgementalism; society was not allowed to express any disapproval of sexual activity outside marriage.

Note that this woman had three children by a man (a petty criminal) who was not her husband. She was undoubtedly paid by the state to keep those children, her worthless "boyfriend" being unable to do so from jail. In a very real sense, the taxpayers subsidized the neglect and killing of these children.

There will be those who coo that we must not judge this woman. To hell with them. The only way to protect other children from neglect or abuse is for society to get real judgmental real fast. And stop paying women who have children out of wedlock.
