Fox to renew migration push
El Universal ^ | November 21, 2004

Posted on 11/21/2004 6:05:06 AM PST by traumer

The president will renew efforts to reach an accord on migrant workers in a meeting with Bush on Sunday.

President Vicente Fox arrived in Santiago for the 12th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation reunion on Saturday, and he is scheduled to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush and other world leaders today.

Fox hopes to re-energize discussions with the U.S. leader on a possible migration accord that would move towards regularizing the status of an estimated 10 million Mexicans residing in the United States illegally.

In an interview with the Costa Rican paper La Nación, Fox said that differences over the U.S. war in Iraq have not affected relations because "good friends and partners are used to speaking the truth," He said that his relations with Bush were "as strong as ever," and the bilateral relationship was proceeding "with maturity."

Bush unveiled a temporary worker plan earlier this year that would allow Mexicans who are offered jobs in the U.S. to obtain a renewable three-year work visa.

While the proposal was shelved during the U.S. electoral campaign, outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell visited Mexico earlier this month suggesting that conditions were good for a migration accord following Bush's reelection. He cautioned, however, that any agreement would depend on the new U.S. congress which will take office in January.

Just days before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S., Fox was pressuring politicians in Washington on a migration deal, but the subsequent 'War on Terror' pushed relations with Mexico to the backburner.

Fox will also meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Fox will discuss economic ties and new technology in the oil industry with Putin, and he plans to set a date for a visit to Moscow.

The president hopes to push Mexico's tourism agenda with China, where an estimated 100 million newly-wealthy Chinese are expected to begin to participate in international tourism in the coming years.

With Lagos, Fox hopes to discuss Mexico's possible integration into the South American trading bloc Mercosur.

Following the Chile trip, Fox will travel to Ecuador for a state visit.

Why can't our non-violent prisoners be used to fill the jobs that the illegals are doing now?

Could save taxpayers a bundle and serve to rehab the cons.

...because "good friends and partners are used to speaking the truth,"

I hope Bush points out to Fox, the "truth", that illegal means against American law.

I don't see anything in this post that indicates that Fox wants to stop illegal immigration. Too much money involved I guess.

Because that just makes too much sense and besides the ACLU would be screaming about civil liberties being violated. To them it is much more feasible to let illegals come into the country, suck off of government programs and further endanger our safety by letting the border remain open.

Fox will also meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin....and Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Does this mean he's also going to push Pooty-poot and Hu for more legal immigration and citizenship of Mexican citizens to Russia & China? {/sarcasm}

Indeed! Like you, I've been riding that horse for a long, long time. I for one shall not forgive the corrupt Fox for his failure to support GWB and our fighting men and women during the run-up and the followup to the Iraq War. Viva el Fox no!

Why can't our non-violent prisoners be used to fill the jobs that the illegals are doing now?

Why can't market forces determine what workers are paid? If an American won't pick lettuce or swing a hammer for $5/hr, then let the market determine what the wage will be. This whole thing about all the jobs Mexican illegals are willing to do that American workers aren't is a pant load of BS if you axe me......

Vicente Fox actually would if he thought he could get by with it. His only real interest is the ethnic cleansing of Mexico --- notice he's not looking for new homes for his upper class whiter elites. He doesn't care what happens to the Mestizos and Indians as long as they're gone from Mexico -- and never to return.

One-fifth of the Mexican population living outside of Mexico isn't nearly enough --- he wants much much much more. This clown will never be satisfied --- he's hell bent on getting ALL his poverty stricken indigent population out --- to him that's the best way to prevent the overthrow of Mexico's very corrupt regime.
