LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Nearly two years after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, women there are no better off than under the rule of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein, the human rights group Amnesty International said on Tuesday.
In a report entitled "Iraq -- Decades of Suffering," it said that while the systematic repression under Saddam had ended, it had been replaced by increased murders, and sexual abuse -- including by U.S. forces.
Washington promised that the overthrow of Saddam would free the Iraqi people from years of oppression and set them on the road to democracy. But Amnesty said post-war insecurity had left women at risk of violence and curtailed their freedoms.

Tell that to the women Uday and Qusay raped to start their day. Tell that to the women who weren't allowed to speak, read, study, walk, or vote. What a bunch of ****s.
They are just jealous that GW liberated more people in two years than Amnesty has in the their history.
They voted. That was a small step for their future. And now they will have a future.
Reuters? Never. Amnesty International, ditto. Or, at least until we have a democrat president again. (They may have to wait awhile for that one.)
Pegging the BS meter.
Interpretation; "Iraqi women haven't yet been empowered to point their fingers at men and have the men drop dead after suffering horribly for 2 hours."
How about never. If they admit the truth they have to admit that their entire world view is out of line with reality, so don't hold your breath.
Yep..a USELESS organization they are USELESS
They should change the name to Amnesia International.
Funny how far they've strayed from what was a very ideological beginning - putting the spotlight on communist oppression. How ironic that now they are more communist/socialist than the Soviets!
Amnesty International was most notable for its silence about the sufferings of dissidents under Communism. They are an organisation riddled with moral failings. As such, who cares what they have to say now.

Obviously, if this is true, it means our troops have been hangng around the UN Peacekeepers for waaaaay too long.
Did they see the women VOTING? Fer gosh sake, give it up all ready.
As proof of rape by American forces Amnesty offers photos from a Hungarian porno web-site. Much like those offered by Boston City Councillor Chuckles Turner and racial arsonist Sediki Kambon.
I assume that the troops fit this into their day between killing reporters and civilians. /sarcasm
This says far more about Amnesty than it does about Iraqi women.
Call me in ten years, and we'll talk, Amnesty International.
For Amnesty International, it's not a question of the cup being half-full or half-empty. It's who has the cup and who gave it to them and why wasn't AI or the UN consulted first? If AI had been around in WWII they'd have whined about the poor air quality around German concentration camps.
