More typically they will be offered a free cruise.
I would be interested in knowing why there was no attempt at all to get out of harms way. These are not 10 knot ships anymore, they move pretty good and have exceptional weather info. I doubt if this entire storm system just came out of no-where. Of course there is lots of pressure on the captain not to miss the deadline for the next cruise. Most ships are only in port for hours before they start the next cruise.
