Ha ha, I thought it was great! A message to those stiff conservatives: here's a tissue for the issue.

These folks need to get over themselves. Part of what made the routine so funny is that everyone knew Mrs. Bush would do never partake of some of the behavior she described.

There's more than a few "heavies" on FR. That said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone is entitled to mock others' opinions. It's what makes it so fun!

I agree - a bit toooooo far right for me.
I appreciated her humor and we all need to be roasted now and then, and who can do it better than our wives. And I do believe she did it with excellent taste and came off as 'polished' as she always does. However, all that being said, I do wish that Mrs Bush did NOT give reference to "Desperate Housewives" as she did.

I'm a conservative Christian, and I thought they were pretty funny. Amen! The Swift Report must have worked hard to find someone who purports to be a conservative Christian and has their panties in a wad!

More is being made of this than is probably there. Note: "more criticism is expected." Excuse me? Are they psychic?

It was humor! Heck, the Democrats have said things in poor taste and there wasn't this kind of uproar. Some conservatives need to get a grip.

"Coalition for Traditional Values" is far from traditional in their thinking. They sent GW a letter soon after inauguration complaining that the twins' dresses were too low cut.

It WAS a joke
BUT
I am alittle weary of all the male bashing that goes on.
Look at commercials. The male is ridiculed and the woman is calm, cool and collected and obviously "in charge".
Bush IS the President. I'd like to continue respecting him but when you ridicule someone if makes it more difficult to respect the person and not just the "office".
His wife appears to have a sense of humor. That's good. I believe she should continue to be funny but not let GW be the butt of her jokes. There are MANY things to laugh at. Pick something else.
She also ridiculed herself as a "desrperate housewife".

Me too.
I am very tired of humorless, dour, bitter, pin-heads being the vocal voice of Christianity. Makes us look like twits.

She hit a homer....so I say: Obviously these people have never been on a farm or ranch. Lighten up and grow up while you are at it.
To: areafiftyone
Good grief!
the First Lady's performance comes at a time when the Mr. Bush's "manliness is already under attack."
Men who are sure of their manliness are seldom threatened by mere words, especially made in jest, by someone who loves them. And who's attacking his manliness anyway? I thought the problem was he was all testosterone, and thus attacking the whole world? Jeez Louise!
