Religion and Politics Clash (Democrats Not Welcome at Church)
WLOS ^ | 5-6-2005 | Unknown

Religion and politics clash over a local church's declaration that Democrats are not welcome.

East Waynesville Baptist asked nine members to leave. Now 40 more have left the church in protest. Former members say Pastor Chan Chandler gave them the ultimatum, saying if they didn't support George Bush, they should resign or repent. The minister declined an interview with News 13. But he did say "the actions were not politically motivated." There are questions about whether the bi-laws were followed when the members were thrown out.

hm. During CA's Prop 209, SF Bay Area black church leaders were PUBLISHED as saying they'd banish from their churches anyone who didn't actively FIGHT 209. Of course, they mumbled afterwards, that it wasn't about politics; but *real* civil rights. I can only be glad I wasn't a "dissenting" member of that church, right? Right.

Churches are not public office or public entities. Furthermore, the SF Episcopalian leadership went even further -- locking out parishioners who didn't go along with taking the host from gay or lesbian clergy. And? The church will survive or it won't.

But given the numbers, the liberal "Episcopalian Church" is smarting given their own policies of the past 30+ years.

And wasn't it Democrats over the past year suggesting that "churches" should be audited or somesuch for "politicking" in the church? Right. No one is noticing...

Another expample of America's freigntening convergence of church and state. The world is already on notice that the USA is becoming a Christian state. It's very sad.

Hmmm, member since 05/04/05? A hearty non-Troll welcome. What world are you referring to? And how many moons are on *your* planet?

Yeah, isn't separation of church and state in one of the 10 Commandments? Bbbrrrr...scary!

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize I don't have posting priviliges yet. Are you going to call me a socialist pig now because you disagree with me?
I just meant the world outside the USA. Are you aware of it?

World outside the USA hmmm no I haven't heard of it, is it a new planet, does it have moons (cough bats) circling it.....

I'm sure, however, you're about to enlighten us all.

In case you were wondering, you're the functional illiterate I was referring to above.

I don't recall calling you a name, and you're free to post whatever you what -- just be prepared to support your point of view.

I find your original assertion ludicrous and unsupported by any facts.

Aw, now who spoiled it by giving them notice? I thought the plan was to just sneak up on 'em and go Zap.

Actually, the fun is over at Demented Underground, where this story has spawned 4 or 5 threads and well over 500 comments. Basically, they wail that this one pastor, in a small mountain church, is causing the end of democracy as we know it. Dementia is not pretty, but sometimes it can be funny.

I'm just a conservative who's not a fan of religion. I think politics and religion should be kept completely seperate from each other, but most Republicans right now seem to think you can't be one without the other. You have to admit that the current administration refers to "God" more than any others in the past 20-30 years.

What?

"The role of religion in our society? I view religion as a personal matter. I think a person ought to be judged on how he or she lives his life, or lives her life." (George W Bush)

Yep I see it, would have missed it if you hadn't have pointed it out. (sarcasm)
