Spielberg Weeps at Star Wars Screening

Director STEVEN SPIELBERG wept at a premiere of pal GEORGE LUCAS' final STAR WARS movie EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH.

JURASSIC PARK film-maker, Spielberg was so moved by the eagerly-awaited conclusion of the sci-fi saga, he burst into tears at its screening last week.

But he's unashamed by his tears, insisting fans will also cry at the end of the film, because its moving conclusion marks the end of Lucas' epic story.

Spielberg says, "I saw it about a week ago, and it's absolutely amazing.

"It's the best of the last three episodes. It's the best way you could possibly imagine for George to finish it off, it has a tremendous ending and it's very dark. You'll cry at the end, it's wonderful."

Spielberg shot many scenes for this film...more self promotion if you ask me.

I was just kidding. Of course I am serious that crying was strange.

I cry at the drop of a hat but wouldn't even be tempted by a star wars movie.

Sgt. AQGeiger and I had the exact opposite experience. Episode 1 was okay. When we went to see Episode 2, we were literally sitting in the theater, asking each other when we thought the movie would end. It was that boring. We felt totally cheated out of $20.

I can't wait till Episode 3 comes and goes. I'm sick of hearing about these movies.

Yea, let's all weep over a movie.

What about the millions of babies killed in this country every year? Do you think he'd weep at a screening of "Silent Scream"?

I thought Lucas originally wrote nine episodes, and the first one released in '77 was supposed to be episode III. Boy, is my memory terrible, or what?

I remember discussing Star Wars back in the 70s, and we were definitely talking about 9 episodes. I wonder what happened to the other three?

I seem to remember that there was supposed to be 9 episodes, as well, that "Star Wars: A New Hope" was the 4th, Empire Strikes Back is 5th and Return of the Jedi was 6th. However, I also heard that it took so long to decide to go ahead and make Eps 1-3, that he just canned 7-9 totally.

Please define "tank." I doubt very seriously that Star Wars will tank, unless your definition of Tank is it won't make $300 million...then...it might tank.

I don't know about that. I can imagine three more episodes.
Episodes 7, 8 and 9 which chronicle the further adventures of Luke Skywalker and his merry band...just as Lucas originally planned. Maybe he'll finally figure out that he has enough money and sell the rights for short money so some other visionary can finish it off. How about Peter Jackson?

War of the Worlds is going to tank.

I'm looking forward to the release of the War of The Worlds film that is being produced in Great Britain...it supposedly adheres very faithfully to the original H.G. Wells novel.

I thought Lucas originally wrote nine episodes...

The Star Wars saga was envisioned as 3 trilogies. The first movie was set at the beginning of the of the second trilogy. That trilogy finished with "Return of the Jedi".

We are now awaiting the last of the first trilogy. And it hasn't been good. As far as I'm concerned Lucas was captured by the PC and technology dark side. He's forgotten how to make fun movies.

Hope he stays far away from the third trilogy!

War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise just doesn't make it for me. (I just can't stand the guy.)
Tank in both cases means not being successful.

Lucas claims he had written a three-episode backstory to the Original Trilogy (Episodes IV, V, and VI). But by now, it should be painfully obvious that he did no such thing. The plot for Phantom Menace and Clone Wars was barely enough for 1 film, let alone 2. It seems to me that he only had enough of a backstory for 1 prequel. I'm hoping that all the story/action went into Episode III--I might even be able to forget the lackluster first two. We'll see.

The storytelling is off, and they picked the wrong kids to play Anakin. I think it's pretty clear that Lucas captured lightning in a bottle the first time around.

In the first trilogy he had Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness to carry things, along with Carrie Fisher. Mark Hamill sucked, but not enough that the rest couldn't compensate

In Phantom Menace, you could tell that the storyline was originally done with a teenage Anakin in mind, but they cut/pasted the little kid in for marketing reasons

With a good teenage actor who could act, and a good director, the first movie would have been a lot better.

The romantic plotline of the Clones was just out the window. Anakin as a deranged, creepy stalker does not come across as the kind of person an older planetary executive would fall for
