I won't be around this morning for much of the pre-race coverage (Actually... I only might get back for the race!) ecurbh and I are going trail riding! But I promised a pretty thread for the Belmont, and here's the best I could do!

Ping!

from the BBC:

Giacomo eyes Crown at Preakness

Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo goes for the second leg of the Triple Crown in the $1m Preakness Stakes on Saturday.

The three-year-old, trained by John Shirreffs, sprang a 50-1 shock to win in Kentucky a fortnight ago but will be much shorter odds at Pimlico.

Nine of the 14 runners in the Preakness also ran in Kentucky, including likely favourite Afleet Alex, who was third in the Derby.

Last year's Preakness Stakes was won by Smarty Jones.

The half-blind colt captured the attention of America after winning the both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

But he was only second in the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown

If the Kentucky Derby proved anything, it's that when it comes to horse racing, nobody knows nothing! That said, my prediction is that there is no way Giacomo wins the Preakness Stakes today.

In other big racing news, Ground Round won the Porterhouse Stakes yesterday!

Enjoy the pre-race stuff, I won't be able to follow it till later!

Knowing nothing about betting on the horsies, I was surprised that the Kentucky Derby's Perfecta (?) was won on a "quick pick", and that the purchaser bought 100 of them and got something over $800,000....whew.

My guts tell me, Afleet Alex. I agree. Alex ran a great Preakness in the Derby. Maybe Giacamo for the Belmont.

Greeley's Galaxy and Noble Causeway are horses I like. I highly doubt Giacamo can repeat. I have been so busy with weddings, operations and funerals in the family, I haven't had time to study (not that this would help, based on my last picks). At this point, I am hoping I get back from cousin's remembrance in time for the race.

Preakness is the fast track but it rained all day yesterday in Baltimore.

That kind of kills Afleet Alex, but the track conditions will be the key. If they are like what Kentucky was, look for Giacomo to win...

I would be putting money on Alex though....

Oh dear. I see the race starts at the same time (1 pm) as my cousin's remembrance. I can't even tape it because I have satellite and it's on a regular station. Why couldn't they have this at 3 like the derby? WHY, lord?

Wow! You really did a nice job setting up this thread!

I wish I could tell you who looks best in this race. LOL. Any one of a number of them could do it today. ;-)

Giacomo has his own Jack LaLanne Juicer. He loves it! :)

Might I suggest:

Black Eyed Susan:

INGREDIENTS:
• 1 part Cointreau
• 1 part Mount Gay rum
• 1 part Vodka
• Pineapple Juice
• Orange Juice
PREPARATION:
Fill a highball glass with shaved ice, add the liquors first, then top off with equal parts of orange and pineapple juice. Stir and garnish with a lime wedge

Or a dozen Natty Boh's...Charm City Champagne

I hope so! But I am concerned about Galloping Grocer, High Fly, Afleet Alex, Greeley's Galaxy and Closing Argument.

Noble Causeway and Scrappy T can show a good race too.
