Greece wins 2005 eurovision contest.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Foreign Affairs
KEYWORDS: 2005; eurovision; greece
Eurovision is a song contest in europe. It is actually significant to the participating nations. (though it is tinged with the usual petty politics)

Will post pictures below.

It is just fun. If the parties were anything like after the eurocup or the final day of the olympics, there is going to be a MAJOR party (call in sick) flu on monday.

The order of performances in the Semi-final was as follows:

Austria Lithuania Portugal Moldova Latvia Monaco Israel Belarus The Netherlands Iceland Belgium Estonia Norway Romania Hungary Finland The Former Yugoslav Republic and Macedonia Andorra Switzerland Croatia Bulgaria Ireland Slovenia Denmark Poland

Here is an interesting footnote.

NOT ONE person was waiving an EU flag. Everyone was waiving their individual national flags. The winner draped herself in her homecountry's flag.

So much for the new EUropeeeean identity.

Mama Cass lives!

Actually, my vote for best pop song ever is Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster."

That song never fails to rock.

"NOT ONE person was waiving an EU flag. Everyone was waiving their individual national flags"

Uh, that's kind of the idea. All of the performers are representing their countries.

The hard core EU-rophiles are trying to push the notion that there is a unified EU mentality. I actually like the fact the nations have not lost their ID.

She is only 28. She had a really good voice, despite the fact that dress only compounds matters.
