Detroit Free Press | 28 MAY 2005 | MICHAEL ELLIS

Title and link only. All GM vehicles except the Hummer H3 at GM employee discounts? Huge!

Read about it, especially if you are in the market for a newer vehicle.

In the market? Yes.

Anything built by General Mishap. No.

The employee discount varies by model. Gee, so does the profit. I wonder what the employee discount runs since the article doesn't say. Anyone know?

Mrs. Lurkin and I have had five GM autos and have been happy with each and every one.

We bought a new Silverado the first of April and the "discount" (we had a freinds and family referral) on the truck was almost $4,000

The profits on the light trucks run in the four figures. Just another reason I won't buy one :)

This sucker ain't no "light" truck! Extended cab, 5800 V-8 Vortex engine, weighs a gazillion pounds! Get's a decent 22-24 mpg on the highway (without a bed cover) to boot.

It listed for just over $30K and we got it for $22.5K after the rebates, discounts, trade in, haggling, etc. And through GMAC we got a 2.9% interest rate.

It's the wife's new truck and she only puts about 15 miles a week on a vehicle (her office is less than a mile from home) and so we plan on keeping it for a long, long time.

I have a Chevy Lumina still limping along with 209,000 miles on it. I've had to do a bit of work on it: heads (my fault), transmission (just wore out). It's now ready to be put out to pasture.

However, GM just doesn't have anything I'm interested in buying, even at a tremendous discount.

Now, if they had a turbo diesel available in the TrailBlazer, I'd think about it.

Light truck is the industry's classification :) You know as in cars and light trucks. I'm not casting aspersions on your vehicle :)

Too bad my five year old GMC Sierra is only about 2/5s into its anticipated lifespan. I kept my last GMC for 11.5 years. I'm looking at breaking that record with the current one. That should be enough to give GM the willies.

Now, DaimlerChrysler has many vehicles that interest me: Liberty CRD, Mercedes-Benz E300 CDI, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300C, etc.

A semi? :)

Seriously, the classification system is based on size, weight, and use if I remember correctly. But considering the ways the auto manufacturers have found to get around it, the system's now a bit of a mess. It really needs to be reworked.

My husband is eligible because where he works, they make brake drums for GM. I think it is generally between 10%- 15%.

We have never looked into it too closely because we generally by 1-2 year old vehicles.
