Someone please clue me in, is this such a huge deal that worldwide bans on American beef are necessary? Can't we kill the affected cattle, all those potentially exposed, and recall any meat already sent to market?

Does properly cooking beef prevent human infection from the disease?

It just seems like we're dealing with VX nerve gas in the water supply anytime one cow gets sick.
