Its not just the Nazis.
More than anything else the problems with Arab society stem from the greed and pettiness of European colonizers. During and after WWI when various European countries decided they could no longer support their colonies, they threw them loose into the world with no guidance. Chaos erupted. Dictatorships and theocracies eventually arose because the people had no experience with democracy. Various 'revolutionary' leaders took power promising change and fairness. Given absolute power they became corrupt and established governments that would support their decadence.
The genocide in Rwanda, the chaos across Africa including Somalia, the disorders of Egypt, Iraq, Iran, and Israel, and the wars between Pakistan and India can all be traced back to the failure of European countries to help their colonies establish a decent and stable government. While Nazis may have helped breed fascism and evil, we cannot forget that the abandonment of these countries by the Europeans is what started the evil in the first place.
Obviously this is a lesson for both Iraq and Afghanistan as well. We cannot be like the Europeans and screw up the Middle East again.
I think, you could also easily place some of the blame on the faddish politics of Marxism.
Asia was colonized by Europeans and also by the Japanese.
Somehow it survived and thrived(in comparison to Africa or the Arab world.)
