I got snookered into doing that same thing once ( in or about 1980 when I was in my early teens ).
It only took one time for me to figure out it wasn`t good.
But my reasons for not doing it again were I was more afraid of what my friends would do to me while I was passed out.
After I woke up on the bed , I first checked my pockets and then started looking around for a camera. I didn`t have that much trust in my friends, and for good reason. So once was enough for me.

What you discribe did not require another to restrict the blood supply to the brain - a person could do it to him/her self. Safer of course, from the standpoint of being fatal - the person's own hand would fall away if it went too far. Still very stupid and dangerous.

i guess just sitting on the floor, hyperventilating and then standing up fast while holding your breath and passing out is just too pa-say nowadays...

I have a feeling they're leaving out the masturbation part so as not to add embarrassment to the parents' grief. The chin-up bar with the belt around the neck is definitely the stuff of auto-erotic asphyxiation. They're probably leaving out the fact the kid was naked or had no pants on.

Really nothing new...in my paramedic days it was called auto-erotic asphyxia.
I think it was in 1969 when the pretty well known underground cartoonist Vaughn Bode killed himself in that manner. No, it's not new at all. I had some friends who were paramedics in the 70's who had some truly amazing on the job stories, stuff only cops and paramedics saw.

Choking game's deadly lureIn most ways, human beings are smarter than animals. But in some ways, animals are smarter than human beings.

While I certainly agree you shouldn't be videotaping a kids' locker room, I don't think that it is illegal. It's illegal to tape audio, but not video.

I remember doing this stupid game back when I was in the 5th grade (circa 1973), only we would stand behind the person, bear-hug them around the chest and arms, lift them up and back until they passed out. They would also hold their breath during this "game." Are these the same things? We did this a lot as kids. It always took a few minutes afterwards to remember the time and place. Is hyperventilating an holding your breath with a bear hug the same thing as a belt around your neck? Seems like one is a overabundance of oxygen and the other is a lack of it.

"...And when a teacher eventually came by and told us that we might kill each other if we did that, that was enough to shock us back to reality and therefore I never did it again..."
Geez, what "shocked" me is that by junior high school you actually needed a teacher to tell you that you could die by pressing against both sides of a guys neck... Just a shot in the dark here but, any chance you went to a publi....... oh, nevermind... : )
Just messing with you! I unfortunately must agree with the last part of your post...

Really, eh? Sounds like some perverted minds could do nasty things with such a video recording.

You have a good point. Never really thought about that.

You don't know what your talking about and you shouldn't speculate. Brian was my cousin and I just came across this. I think that its really pathetic and disrespectful that someone(bansheebill) would post this article and then ridicule a serious subject. This article was done to raise awareness for those people who actually care about their children and want to warn them. Not so that you people can sit here and talk senseless BS that is completely nonfactual. With that said I hope that anyone that really wants to talk about this seriously will contact us. For the record Brian was completely clothed and this was not auto-erotica asphyxia it was Auto asphyxia. Please respect his soul.

"Hyperventilate, crouch, and hold your breath."
THAT's what it was. I was telling my wife about the choking high and the computer dust-off high, and said "I seem to recall doing something with hyperventaliting when I was a kid" but couldn't remember exactly. (Gee- I wonder why?!)
