As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.
THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.
Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?

In contrast, I do agree that the Stockholders of Corporations together with the Board of Directors should approve any political donations at annual meetings together with the various other items to be voted on.
However, not everyone works for a Public Company and/or a Union. I don't! So, I know that i get my paycheck and if my Firm decides to donate to a particular group, it was not my money. It may have lowered my bonus or raise, but, that is not the Boss's problem. Retention is, but there is always another face to plant in any job.
That's how I just voted.

LOL, I am in Oregon where there is no election today at all, yet I'm following this thread. I think that must make me a political junkie too!
My prediction: Prop 75 will pass.
Many disgruntled state employees do not like being forced to give a cut of their paycheck to the Berkeley commies (unions).
its actually not decided on by just retired judges...the create a new redistricting and the people of california vote on whether they like the way it is redistricted...i like it...it seems fair...the republican party i think is even paying to run yes vote commericals out here...tom mcclintock knows what he is talking about...remember...he was running as the more conservative person against the governator

I asked this on another thread and didn't get an answer. Why are Republicans for redistricting in CA and not OH? Is it just because such a redistricting would be favorable to the GOP in one state and not in the other? That seems just a tad hypocritical to me, but maybe there's some substantive difference in how the initiatives are written.

I guess I am also. I got to vote for Mayor and 2 city council for my big town of 5000.

Okay. I already voted absentee, so this is purely academic, but what's your basis for a "NO" vote on 76? Isn't that givein the State Governor power that he had for many years prior anyway? Nothing neww, just restoring something old that would be a good tool to combat out-of-control spending in the Legislature?

Even at that, if the new-but-not-yet-approved districting plan were an improvement over the present boundaries, having it go into effect BEFORE the people vote to approve it could be a functional benefit. That considered, though, I voted it down on the principle that nothing submitted to the people for a vote should go into effect until AFTER that vote has been cast.
