So, the material was formed 1.3 million years ago. Knowing the age of the material doesn't indicate when the volcano spit it out or when the footprints were made.

So, the material was formed 1.3 million years ago. Knowing the age of the material doesn't indicate when the volcano spit it out or when the footprints were made.I think the purpose of dating the material is to date what is contained by it. At first the dating was to 40,000 years ago. That collided with the previous dating for the arrival of the first humans on this hemisphere. So this new dating, 1.3 million years, makes it worse.

Thanks, that does help. I didn't find that pic at the web site, but it's from the site at the end of the article I posted.

When they get their poop in a group, they will come to the conclusion that humans in north America were wiped out by the Toba eruption and that the continent was repopulated later by migrating peoples from the far east...

They look like footprints to me too. I'm no archeologist, but I suspect people were taller back then.

They look like human footprints, but the material could have been lying there for millennia before the prints were made. Trying to date when volcanic ash solidified is problematic, to say the least. The bottom line is, we still don't know when the prints were made or if they are human footprints.
