I can. And guess who was doing the selecting?
Yes, I was going to suggest that the Democrats will fund research on cloning this gene, so as to produce more Democrat voters.
So, are the Yoruba guys geniuses? What if they were just dumb to start with and this made them normal?
FYI ping.
This is interesting. I'm sure one of my brothers is 20 points more intelligent than the other. Just a fact.
I wonder if they can test for this gene in the womb, and what it would mean for babies "not deemed smart enough" by mom and dad....
"Jirtle cautioned that inheriting the different version of the gene did not guarantee a lower IQ. Although as a group average IQ scores were lower, there were still males who had the variant gene and a higher IQ. (Two boys with the variant version of the gene had very high IQs of 160, Jirtle said.) And males with the more common form of the gene can also have a lower IQ."
Think I'll wait for a few confirmation studies before I believe this. It sounds like it could be random fluctuation.

Who's Gene?
It's still unclear why the gene has an effect on IQ only in males.
I'll wager it has something to do with the amount of blood that can flow to the male member.
The scientists say that males who inherit a particular version of the gene have, on average, an IQ that is 20 points lower than males who don't.
The Simpson's gene.
(There was an episode where Lisa finds out the stupidity in the Simpson line is sex linked.)
Under high magnification, it appears to be a tiny six-pack of Budweiser...
This is consistent with another study I read recently, that found that 2 genes, each of relatively recent occurrence (4000 -5000 years ago for one and 2500 years ago for the other) caused a dramatic affect on brain size.
The distribution worldwide was mapped and the highest concentration was in caucasians.
Notably, those genes did not appear at all in Africans nor in Native Americans. In the latter case, the presupposition is that the last migration across the Bering Strait land bridge (10,000 years ago) predated the appearance of the gene, and once the land bridge disappeared the population was 'cut off' from the gene.
It's a woman's world....

does culture effect genetics or the other way around?
no doubt some cultures are smarter than others....in my observations anyhoo
btw....any fool who has children knows intelligence or lack of is for sure at least partly hereditary
only the cult of sameness would even try to refute that...for ideological what if motivations
Merry Christmas William!
Um. If genetics drives IQ, then breeding determines IQ, which means that certain breeds of people are smarter than others. Uh oh..........
Assuming this is even true....... When this train collides with the PC movement there's gonna be bodies everywhere.
Typically, identical twins have similar IQs, so I would say that there is definitely a genetic link to IQs.
One of my identical twin daughters has brain damage, and the neurologist had them DNA tested to make sure they were identical. The main reason was to see how they compare on things.
The one without brain damage is gifted, but I sometimes think the other one is also. The one with a brain injury has a speech problem. It's interesting in that both of them are math whizzes. The one that is gifted is a great reader, and is reading several grades above level.
