U.S. army is racist, claims British officer (Barf barf spin alert!)

London/Washington: A senior British officer has criticised the U.S. army for its conduct in Iraq, accusing it of institutional racism, moral righteousness, misplaced optimism, and of being ill-suited to engage in counter-militancy operations.

The blistering critique, by Brigadier Nigel Aylwin-Foster, who was the second most senior officer responsible for training Iraqi security forces, reflects criticism and frustration voiced by British commanders about American military tactics.

Startling comments

What is startling is the severity of his comments — and the decision by Military Review, a U.S. army magazine, to publish them.

American soldiers, says Brig. Aylwin-Foster, were ``almost unfailingly courteous and considerate''. But he says ``at times their cultural insensitivity, almost certainly inadvertent, arguably amounted to institutional racism''. The U.S. army, he says, is imbued with an unparalleled sense of patriotism, duty, passion and talent. ``Yet it seemed weighed down by bureaucracy, a stiflingly hierarchical outlook, a predisposition to offensive operations and a sense that duty required all issues to be confronted head-on.''

While U.S. officers in Iraq criticised their allies for being too reluctant to use force, their strategy was ``to kill or capture all terrorists and insurgents: they saw military destruction of the enemy as a strategic goal in its own right''. Such an unsophisticated approach is counter-productive, exacerbating the task the U.S. faced by alienating sections of the population, he argues.

Shucks, the brit actually turned out to be a jolly good fellow in that his remarks were nowheere near as 'severe' or critical as Al Guardian's journo *hores wanted them to be. Contrast the firist para with the actual quotes of the brit Brig and see.

Yes, it really helps to take a hands off approach when fighting a foe that routinely rapes, tortures and beheads captives. What a complete idiot. Say Moron, go over and try this line with our SOF guys who are the WORLDS BEST at Counter Insurgency. To say the above indicates such a complete ignorance of US Army capablities as to render questionable the British Officer's sanity.

Sounds like the British Army isn't actually a fighting force anymore,it's another social program.

a predisposition to offensive operations and a sense that duty required all issues to be confronted head-on.''

And that is what separates Americans from Europe. We confront the issue, not put it on our dance card. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer Americans are able/willing to do this. The Liberals are succeeding in europizng America.

arguably amounted to institutional racism"

It would be more accurate to say that this guy's panty-waist, Euro-twit, feeble-minded approach to combatting terrorists "arguably amounts to premature senility."

"Racism is the last refuge of the scoundrel".

"racism" and "Nazi" are the 2 most overused words of the vast leftwing conspiracy and dims.

"Reason", "facts", "pragmatic", "realism" and "courage" are the 5 least used words of the left and Dims.

I guess our soldiers didn't get sensitivity training at Oxford or Cambridge. He would have our military deal with this situation like Chamberlain did with Hitler. Just give them what they want, and we will have "peace in our time".

No offense to our British friends. I think people like this are in the minority.

I will have to send this to my 1st Sgt son over in Mosul, so he can adjust his behavior.

So "unintentionally" being American culturally is in and of itself enough to claim that Americans are "racist"? What a jerk this guy is!

....to kill or capture all terrorists and insurgents.....

As opposed to the British way, which is simply to accomodate all terrorists and insurgents.

The British forces have let the terrorists and insurgents basically take over southern Iraq. This was demonstrated a few months ago when SAS troopers on a mission were captured and thrown in jail by Iraqi police in Basra.
