It's funny. I glanced over at Eschaton and Atrios felt he finally needed to make a "For the obligatory-must-comment-on-the-events-of-the-day-post".
I think that phrase pretty much stakes out the position the left finds themselves in. They feel "obliged" to comment on the riots, (in the most nuetral way possible) yet one gets the feeling that if these were Christian abortion protesters burning down a clinic he would be all over it like white on rice. Multiple posts would be made within an hour of the event and much decrying of the placards they carried would also be done. One wonders how long it took Atrios to comment on Pat Robertsons view on bumping off Chaves, and if he felt that his comments were merely "obligitory".
I think this is why the left will never be taken seriously on matters like this.
