Cory Burnell wants to turn South Carolina into a promised land for conservative Christians – and he says accomplishing that mission will be easier than he’d originally thought.

Burnell, a 30-year-old financial adviser, founded the group Christian Exodus in 2003, with plans to recruit conservative Christians to move to South Carolina.

South Carolina is very conservative and a wonderful state. I know people who live there that have roots going back 200 years.

If I lived in some place like CA or NY, I would seriously consider moving to SC. But since my roots go back that long in Oklahoma and we are just as conservative, I think I will stay here...:)

I'm not endorsing their idea, but it seems to me that if something like this were to be done, it should be done in a swing state such as New Hampshire. I would think its electoral votes, senators, and reps would be more important than SC's sheriffs.

Well DAMMIT I am in California... albeit Fresno. Considering what our wonderful 9th circuit court just did in letting off another killer... South Carolina sounds good to me. Seriously I do wish that the states were empowered to be ran the way their citizens desired it. It seems to work in liberal instances... California is getting crazier all the time. I say let the cards fall where they may and see what happens. A state like California can issue kevlar vests for vehicle passengers and South Dakota or Oklahoma can pray before football games!

Please know that I realize there are good and wonderful people in CA, they are just out-numbered. It is so funny because my church sent people out to CA to start a church, like it was a foreign land. Like the missionaries we send overseas...:)

And I am all for states's rights. I think most things should be left up to the state.

About twice a year they roll this crap out. Last year they claimed to have about 140, now it's 20. Wow!

I think this statement defies reality. I'm not a Christian, but it's pretty clear to me that the overwhelming majority of Americans, to one extent or another, are Christians and that Christianity is the dominant culture in this country.

It is being done here in NH, The Freestate Project chose NH as the freest state in the country and the one most likely to be influenced by 20+ Freestaters ( http://www.freestateproject.org/ )
As long as they are liberty loving and vote that way, they are OK with me.

Christians need to coagulate in 35 of the 50 states.

Up north....Rhode Island is an easy target ....its small but you get two Senators!!!!

New Hampshire is a possibility but they do have quite a athiest/deist conservative streak up there.

Conversely...Massachusetts and New York are lost causes...better to cede those to the homosexuals/Democrats.

Personally, I'm in favor of a Roman Catholic theocracy for Maryland (like the good ole days.)

where taxes are low, people are friendly, neighbors are known, fellow Christians are plentiful, our heritage is cherished, and the weather is nice.

Ditto, I love traveling in the South however I don't care for hot humid weather, that's a big drawback for me as an outdoor person, too hot to do anything but lie around in the shade!

Cory Burnell was a member of the "League of the South," a Southern nationalist -- pretty much a secessionist -- outfit, and an activist for the group. His latest scheme is perhaps a continuation of his earlier efforts to recreate the Confederacy.

Of course, it could be the other way around. Burnell's interest in Southern nationalism may have been a result of his religious views -- all the more so, as he has living in California according to some accounts. But it doesn't pay to be naive about things like Burnell's project.

Just what a "Christian country" is or would look like is open to debate. These guys are carrying some other baggage as well that not all Christians would agree with.
