Feinstein says job crackdowns 'don't work'
San Diego Union Tribune ^ | 03/31/06 | Jerry Kammer

Posted on 03/31/2006 7:53:24 AM PST by RS

"Sen. Dianne Feinstein said yesterday that it would be pointless to couple the legalization of immigrants with a crackdown on U.S. employers who hire unauthorized workers.

“I don't think it makes any sense,” Feinstein said. Federal immigration officials, she noted, have backed off in the past when faced with opposition in communities where work sites are disrupted. "

“What has been shown is that employer sanctions don't work,” Feinstein said.

“You go into a field and you cite an agricultural grower, and the whole community erupts because everybody knows that grower has to harvest his crop or the crops lie dead and dormant,” she said. “So the employer sanctions program has been basically unenforceable.”

Fining employers thousands of dollars per worker per offense doesn't sound like it would do anything to me. Heck, just add the fines to your product costs.

Uhm thr program not working and those who employ illegals not liking it are two very different things.

The program works for what it was intended to do, round up illegals and punish those who employ them.

The fact that feinstein is unable to grasp that concept comes as no great shock to me.

I think Feinstein has gone wobbly in the head.

When will voters wise up and quit sending these radical numbskull's to the senate.

Democrat crackdowns on jobs work all the time.

Jimmy Carter, Unions, minimum wage, FICA, spotted owl, etc.

Feinstein is very dangerous. When did she develop such a great concern for largely conservative growers?

The pro-illegals are SOOOOO negative;

We CAN'T secure our borders, just impossible
We CAN'T deport all the illegals, just impractical
NO AMERICANS will do these jobs, just can't find ANYONE to do them.

"It would work when we start putting the crimminals who hire illegals in jail."

When illegals can easily counterfeit documentation proving that they're legal, how can you hold the employer responsible?

Then the crimminals who hire illegals better come up with a system that works.

I believe we can secure the borders with landmines and machine guns, but the American populace won't agree to killing infiltrators.

Interesting. Do you think maybe some of these growers may have contributed to Feinstein's election?

Just hold the owners responsible for the misdeeds of their slaves ~ that's how we did it before the 13th Amendment. No reason we can't restart that system eh.

Please, do we really believe these employers are checking that close. Really doubt it. If they really wanted to, they could find out if documentation is valid.
