A leak is a leak Was Bush motivated by public interest or revenge? [Barfer]

PRESIDENT BUSH is piously opposed to leaks, unless he's the person doing the leaking.

The president has now acknowledged that he authorized the leak of a classified October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq to bolster his case for the invasion of Iraq.

In retrospect, the administration now says much of the information in the top secret report was faulty. But that's another story.

Before Bush declassified the report, it included caveats and dubious assumptions that should have given him pause. But they were conveniently ignored in his rush to go to war.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the president was motivated by the "public interest" in releasing parts of the report.

Monday, Bush said he declassified the document to show the basis for his argument that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the United States.

"I wanted people to see the truth," he said, explaining that he ordered the declassification because "it was important for people to get a better sense for why I was saying what I was saying in my speeches" about Saddam's pursuit of a weapons program.

However, when the leaks are selective and appear to be vengeful, the president's professed concern for the people's right to know is highly suspect.

Lefties have a hard time understanding that saying 'Bush leaked' is about as truthful as saying a bank account holder stole from their own account when they wrote checks.

Bush can declassify information. I can write checks.

Deal with it lefties.

I will go back to read the rest but the first line says it all.

Funny how in the days since Clinton, libs are preoccupied by truth and lies.
Even funnier how most of their screeds are prefaced by their own lies.

Helen,here is the truth.
The President authorized the reporting of declassified information to show that Joe Wilson was not telling the truth.

Helen, you are wrong as always. You support a proven liar, Joe Wilson, and fail to admit this fact. You are nothing. Please pass away and let the living go on.

[There are leaks -- and then there are leaks.]

Helen is senile. She supports the 1st Ammendment as long as whatever is said suits her agenda. If the President authorized a leak, it was not a leak of classified information.

As a journalist the old bag is supposed to report the facts, not the facts as she interprets them. I use the word journalist loosely.

A President or Vice-president cannot leak as a matter of law.

Saddam supported terrorism. He destabilized the Middle East. He arguably had/would have acquired WMDs. Bush made the hard choice clintoon wasn't man enough to make and took Saddam out. So now it's messy, but duh, that's the way war goes.

Helen and her lefty friends need to do a full-disclosure deal and admit there is no war they would support. They would have probably stood in the way of fighting WWII, and then bitched when they had to learn German. Or Japanese. Of course their executions would have followed immediately after their protest, but they don't get that part.

It's strange that Bush legitimizes people like Thomas by allowing her and the other MSM lowlifes into his house.

I think Bush likes having these MSM crackpots ask him insane questions because it makes the conservative base support and defend him more and it allows him to avoid the tough and important questions from conservatives without the appearance that he is avoiding questions. He knows the MSM will shield him from being asked the questions like:

Did you betray your oath to uphold the constitution by signing the unconstitutional CFR?

Should companies that hire illegal aliens be immune from the labor laws that companies that hire citizens must follow?

Explain why you believe that the minutemen are vigilantes?

Do you believe that illegal immigrants hold down the wages of the poorest working citizens?

What is to stop bin laden, for instance, from entering the country in the same manner that thousands of people south of the border enter the country every day?

Is it your job to secure the borders and if there is a terrorist attack carried out by someone who entered the country illegally, will you accept the blame for failing to do so?

...and hundreds more.

If the President authorized a leak...

Let's not play their game by using their "language".

The President declassified and authorized their release, just as John F. Kennedy authorized the declassification and release of the recon photos showing missiles in Cuba.

Information is classified if it's release would hurt national security. How badly it would hurt determines at what level it is classified, CLASSIFIED, SECRET, SECRET, TOP SECRET, TOP SECRET (SCI), etc.

So far, none of the liberal media has made any case that the information declassiied has hurt national security and therefore should NOT have been released. If that were true they'd have something material instead of mindless hot air.

Never let Democrats be responsible for National Security, they just don't get it.
