I can't stand George Clooney's movies or his politics but the trip he and his father took recently to Chad was inspiring...is he doing this for political gain? Probably...But he was also on Oprah today and it was a touching story...I heard there is a rally for Darfur soon and that Barrack Obama is one of the key speakers...anyone know which Republican leaders will be speaking about this as well?

there is a rally in Washington/SF this weekend for more help for Darfur. as a conservative and a Jew, i feel passionately about helping those people against the genocidal, murderous regime of Khartoum, and give my own time to influencing Congress, the President and the UN to send help. i'm glad to give any and all people credit for working for this worthy cause, including George Clooney. it brings a lot of people from different viewpoints together in a common cause, laying politics aside. this is a good thing and we need more of it. i believe Lt Gov Michael Steele is speaking in DC as well as Congressman Frank Wolf on the Republican side, as well as a lot of religious leaders, Elie Wiesel, etc

"This is an ongoing and terrible story that we were able to see up close," said Clooney. "These folks are helpless out there. There's nobody between them and very bad people."

Replace Sudan and Chad with Iraq before we went it. What would Clooney say then?

Why don't they (or any of the posturing domestic do-gooders) ever travel to downtown Anycity, U.S.A, and try to help the homeless, the alcoholics, the bag ladies, and the insane there? Where, do they say, charity begins?

Did they even listen to Bob Geldoff? That whole region is overrun with corruption, and aid money won't even get where it's supposed to go. The governments in those countries form the bulk of the problem.
