Calif. Dems Cancel Work, But Keep Pay (Support Boycott)
Human Events ^ | April 28, 2006 | CA Assemblyman Chuck DeVore

Posted on 04/29/2006 11:20:27 AM PDT by radar101

On Monday, May 1, large numbers of people nationwide are expected to protest in support of amnesty for illegal immigrants, with some aiming to “close” American cities. Upwards of 3 million people might protest in Los Angeles alone, according to union organizer Jorge Rodriguez who said, “We want full amnesty, full legalization for anybody who is here (illegally).”

Organizers of the May Day work stoppage and protest expect that America’s big cities will come to a stop on Monday as Latinos walk off their jobs and skip school. Teachers’ unions in urban areas have advocated that children should not be held to account for being truant. Confirming this, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Unified School District, with three-quarters of a million children, said that school principals have been advised to join the protests to keep order among the children who may walk out.

In spite of the pleas by Mayor Villaraigosa and Cardinal Mahony, the Democrat leaders of the California State Assembly have decided to call their own boycott for May 1, canceling legislative session that day in deference to the protests. But, showing that their commitment only goes so far, they declared Monday a “check-in” day so as not to forfeit their $459 tax-free per diem for the weekend and Monday. A true legislative walkout would have led to lawmakers losing per diem pay for Saturday and Sunday, as well as Monday since spending more than three consecutive days away from the Capitol triggers a halt in the highly-prized extra pay.

After the Wall to the south is built and effective, and after employers have to prove legal status for employees before they can deduct wages, we should have a guest worker program....

and have to register for that program, in person, at US consulate in their home country, to include providing photographs and fingerprints.

Another change that is needed it to do away with "anchor babies".

The legislative protest by the Democrats caught Republican Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy’s attention. Mountjoy remarked at the close of Thursday’s session that he had spoken to former members of the legislature who where willing to come to work on Monday for half price. The only issue was that they were, “undocumented by the Secretary of State.” Does that mean that “undocumented” lawmakers are willing to do the work that American lawmakers aren’t willing to do?

hahahaha I am sending this guy a thank you note for standing up for Californians.

Actually, I was just curious as to how you came by that 'opinion'. Since it apparently wasn't informed by fact or actual experience it may not, in fact, have any relationship to the real issues concerning California politics.

To me at least, it seems more a 'bias' than an 'opinion'.

Not to mention some of my state's original inhabitants like the Chumash, who might have a small problem with Mexico claiming this property as rightfully theirs.
If we are going backwards in history to determine ownership rights, they win hands down.

Ted Kennedy thinks illegals are very special so maybe he could accommodate about half of them in his state.

Or his wardrobe, at any rate.

"Or his wardrobe, at any rate."

LOL!! There's enough material in his wardrobe to clothe all of them.

Well, isn't this just special. Illegals running rampant protesting...not an agent in sight...and the dems support their blatant thumbing their nose at America. I am so angry and dispirited I don't know what to do. I will be at work Monday, doing my thing. I am so disappointed at Bush I could weep then scream.

My in-laws lived in California...and I visited alot there while they were living there, they lived in the Reseda area...and what I found was alot of the people were against the United States....these were American people to...coming from Utah, I found this quite distasteful...and no I'm not Mormom, I'm Catholic...

As the years went by, and the visits were 2 to 3 a year, the statements made were more and more vicious towards America...they didn't like President Reagan, he was a little hitler, etc....alot of what you hear about President Bush today....

I was visiting there, the last visit to the area, as they moved back to Utah after my father-in-law retired from McDonald Douglas, and this was the first Iraqi war....well there was nothing good about Bush 41, he was worse than hitler, etc.

A few years ago, my brother-in-law was killed in an accident and I attended the funneral, this was in San Juan Copistrano, and the opinions of President Bush was the same as Baby Babs and little smart alex baldwin has been saying....so I guess you might say its a bias rather than an opinion, but I can't help but wonder why the people in California hate America so much...even when their dearly beloved leader clinton was at the helm, there were comments....can you explain????

They can be removed from office, voluntarily or involuntarily.

Well, at least it's showing concern for the learning process of our young in CA..../s

The more good news also is that these crumbs can check in by proxy....what a life..

I for the life of me can't see a disconnect between law makers and hard working voters who pay their wages...
