Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines Jumps the Shark: Now Bashes Patriots --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jeff Freeland Jun 19, 2006
When the whole firestorm that surrounded the Dixie Chicks and specifically lead singer Natalie Maines emerged in 2003 I thought it was a bit blown out of proportion.
Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines Jumps the Shark
I completely disagreed with her off the cuff statement in London that she was "ashamed" of the president being from Texas - but as she was just an entertainer - I thought her reaction was a bit overdone.
***
I am from Texas and live in Houston and though I've disagree with the president on many issues am proud he is from my state. Still - I was willing to write her off as just another entertainer trying to make a political point.
But now - there is no more defending Natalie Maines - she has jumped the shark.
***
In an article from the UK - again in the UK - she says:
"A lot of pandering started going on, and you'd see soldiers and the American flag in every (country music) video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism."
"The entire country may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity for patriotism," Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. "Why do you have to be a patriot?"
"About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country I don't see why people care about patriotism."
***
Well - Nat - you proved them all right. I was a fool to ever defend you.
There is no response to a statement as ignorant as that. "I don't see why people care about Patriotism?" Has she ever even picked up a history book?
This statement can only be described as pure ignorance.

What a freeken jerk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, that "Chick" does not know when to STFU.
Keep talking, baby! I'm loving every minute of it!
ahh....how to kill your career 101.....
Well, rumors abound that the Chicks' latest recording is not selling as well as MTV/VH1 and the like would lead you to believe. And there are stories that at least some of their tour might be cancelled or moved to smaller venues due to lack of ticket sales.
Just keeping talking Ms. Maines.
She did?
Maines is nothing but a spoiled brat who doesn't appreciate the GREAT country she is privilaged to live in.
Oh, I think she's ignorant as well as all you said. Ever hear her talk? She's a walking blonde-joke.
She needs a weekend with the Taliban to give her some perspective.
June 13, 2006 TOUR UPDATE: Eight new cities have just been added to the first leg of the North American tour (see tour page). No shows have been cancelled. Some originally-announced late summer concert dates that were going to be put on sale the weekend of June 10 were not put on sale until a final determination is made if they are going to be moved to the fall. More tour details announced as they become available.
Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you a proud supporter of the Democratic party. :)
ROFLMAO
No surprises here... many on the political left view patriotism as a nationalist vice, rather than a virtue.
That girl really doesn't know the "First Rule of Holes", though, does she?
Ignorant, ignorant. I wonder what will remain of her fan base with remarks like these. Anybody who agreed with her statements need to take a step back and think about what it is that they believe in.
This viewpoint really shouldn't surprise anyone should it?
It became somewhat fashionable in the 60's and onward to
reject one's family in favor of the extended family of the "really beautiful people I just met".This is the logical extension of that...America..who needs it? I've got the world!
Kum...bi...yaaaaaaaa.
