Shouting "Fire" in a Crowded Theater

Would the New York Times pubish our nuclear launch codes if it acquired access to them because it "may be ... a matter of public interest"?

The Bush administration pleaded with the New York Times not to publish its story revealing the existence of a secret government program to track the financial transactions of international terrorists.

The program, headed by the CIA and overseen by the Treasury Department, is known as the "Terrorist Finance Tracking Program" (TFTP) and was begun shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Under it, government officials trace the international financial transactions of those with suspected ties to Al Qaeda by examing data -- only after obtaining an administrative subpoena -- of the Society of Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).

SWIFT is not a financial institution but a Belgian cooperative owned by more than 2,200 organizations that oversees the routing of funds between banks, brokerages, stock exchanges and other institutions. The CIA, under the TFTP, examines mainly wire transfers and other methods of moving money overseas and into and out of the United States. Under the program, for example, the CIA could track funds from a personal bank account of a suspected terrorist in Jordan to a mosque in Philadelphia.

It's just amazing to me that the only individual in the entire government/media complex on trial for anything remotely connected to damaging national security is Scooter Libby.

Of course they would. Unless Bill Clinton asked them not to.

Yes.
The Slimes are totally evil.
They will not rest till they supply the terrorists with enough intel to attack and kill Americans again. And even then they still won't be satisfied.
One can only pray, that God forbid, if we are ever attacked again (Due to all the national security secrets supplied to Al Quaeda by the super evil Slimes), the first people they kill are the people working for The Slimes.

I just heard on Fox News that the Belgian government has started an investigation to see if any of its laws have been broken as a result of this program.

So more information will be revealed due to this investigation and maybe more impediments put in place.

Thank you New York Times.

what really amazes me is that the media won't give out the name of the bimbette who is destroying the lives of the Duke lacrosse team, but will gladly hand our collective security over to the terrorists. it is time to organize a boycott of all the advertisers in the nyt.

Why would someone even bother to ask such a question? Does a bear honk in the woods? Do fish swim in the sea? Actually, with something that important, NYT might well secretly transmit the codes to the enemy du jour before publishing them. The owners and staff at the NYT are good old time SPIES for the enemy in wartime and should be treated as such. And how much else have they transmitted to the enemy without publishing it? I would bet there is some of that, also. Perhaps only the less important information gets published. Are the editors and reporters sending addresses of our GIs to the Saracens so that they can "contact" family?

Just as we plead with everyone else. I'm fed up with this administration grovelling and sniveling. The NRC should put up their real logo on their stationary and website:

I honestly think that the NY Times mission is to undermine the U.S. Government at any turn because of their leftist philosophy.
