White House political strategist Karl Rove said Tuesday that the highly charged immigration debate has "clouded" the views of some Americans, leading them to dismiss the importance of immigrants and their contribution to the nation's success.
"Everything that this country is, everything that we have achieved, everything that we hold, everything that we promise, is because we are a nation of diversity, brought together by immigration, and sharing a common dream," Rove told members of the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights group, the National Council of La Raza.
Rove ticked off enforcement elements of the president's proposal, but added, "All these measures will come to naught without a temporary worker program. ... It's not enough to say send them home."
He also warned that critics against were confusing the debate with catchwords, rather than solutions.
"Too many simplify the problem into one word, "amnesty," Rove said. "In an issue this vital, we cannot allow words to be misused."

Save it for some nutso site.
"Do you know what Reconquista is? Do you know what LaRaza stands for? Do you live West of the Rockies? If not, I can understand your comments, if so, you best get educated."
Remember Hillary's "listening tour" around New York state?
As I have said before, we conservatives need to launch a tour for our elected officials and the open-borders RINO crowd. Send them to stay in Van Nuys or Santa Ana (or South Phoenix, for that matter) for a few days. Perhaps the President can send the Bush ladies along.
I guarantee they'd come away with a whole new perspective on border security after having to spend a couple days in these charming communities.
Put the bong down and back away slowly.
I'm enjoying the game myself.
True, there's all sorts of illegals, from Ireland, Saudi, Egypt, China, etc.
Bush pushed and pushes the "Hispanic" angle.
I havent' seen them, but if they were deleted that would explain it. However, anyone who has followed this debate for any length of time knows full well that the OBL paints those who want to border secured and is against amnesty as racist, anti-hispanic, xenophobes.
susie
Thanks....I like him already.
LOL!!!
You got it... Thank goodness the Republicans running against our Dem Governor and our Dem AG are both running on a close the borders platform... I can't get past the shock that Washington is in step with the democratic party.
Yes, a radical movement to reconquer much of the southwest. It's comprised of a miniscule minority of delusional latino's.
Do you know what LaRaza stands for?
Yes, same as above, with an emphasis on tiny minority.
Do you live West of the Rockies?
Nope, I grew up in Colorado Springs which technically put me in the Eastern foothills of the rockies, and now I live in Texas, which is East of the rockies, so naturally, we've never heard of Mexico here. /sarcasm.
No hard feeling I hope.
Didn'tya think that if you threw a stink bomb at someone they just might toss one back?
Here's another one - Nancy-boy.
Course not.
Karl Rove showing up at La Raza`s big convention was a shameful act by Bush`s chief pandering jackass.
Mierda gets the idea across, but better would be "paja pura" (pronounce the j like an h).
When President "41" Bush ran for reelection he listened to the "where can they go?" political advice concerning his voting base and promptly lost when they stayed home or voted for Ross Perot.
It looks like President "43" Bush learned very little as he continues to alienate the Republican base voters.
It made me sick to my stomach, I told my wife what kind of image we are presenting to the Mooslims, and she said " it shows that he is not afraid to cry"....I am embarrassed for my country at times, how can any thinking man do this in public, when men are dying in Iraq, and enemies are snickering at our show of weakness.
This is the kind of man Rove advises GW to appoint, this is a "COWBOYS"??? choice for the militaries voice to our enemies?
This clown needs to resign. Blackbird.
