Iran-backed Hezbollah Kidnaps Israeli Soldiers, Fires Rockets into Israel (Question about old news)

Two Israel Defense Force (IDF) soldiers were kidnapped and seven others were killed Wednesday in attacks on Israel's northern border by Hezbollah, a terrorist group with close ties to Iran. [1] Hezbollah's Al Manar TV station reported that the abduction occurred just after 9 a.m. and the soldiers were transferred to a safe location. [2]

Just two days before the Hezbollah attacks, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, while speaking about Israel on Iran News Network TV, "It will not be long before this intense fury will lead to a huge explosion." [3]

Ahmadinejad has also said Israel should be "wiped off the map" and that the Holocaust was a myth.

The two soldiers were patrolling Israel's northern border Wednesday morning in armored jeeps when Hezbollah terrorists fired on the vehicles and detonated explosives nearby. [4] Three other soldiers riding in the jeeps were killed in the attack. [5] A senior Hezbollah official said that at least one of the kidnapped soldiers is still alive. [6]

Hezbollah carried out the assault while conducting massive rocket and mortar shell attacks on IDF positions and Israeli villages.

Sorry for bringing up old news but I was out of the country when the Hezbollah kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers took place. In reading up on it I ran across this article that states that "Hezbollah carried out the assault (the kidnapping) while conducting massive rocket and mortar shell attacks on IDF positions and Israeli villages" (the last sentence of the posted excerpt). Is it true that the Hezbollah kidnapping attack was accompanied by “massive rocket and mortar shell attacks”? It seems odd that I can't find any other news story that mentions it...

I would not be able to verify this but I heard the same version of this news - I think it was Melanie Phillips talking on the Simon Mayo show (UK).

"It will not be long before this intense fury will lead to a huge explosion."

The sooner Israel sets off that huge explosion, the sooner they will see begin to see Hexbullah back off.
What's wrong with carpet bombing the area?

That's a lot of carpet to bomb, not to mention all the rugs the Jihadists use to face the east thinking that a black rock is their means for redemption.

I say we concentrate on hardwood floors, brick, concrete, structural steel, rebar, and mud huts as well. Lot's of times carpet and rugs are found inside dwellings and businesses and government institutions.

I'm with ya' Brush.

It will make the Muslim world mad at Israel.

Good to post, because it is not really old news. This incident remains very unexplained.

The version in the article above was the initial story, but since has been revised by several sources. More recently, it is stated that the Hezbollah attacked by stealth and cut through the fence (cut through an electrified fence?)

Another version of events says that there was a rocket barrage BEFORE this. Not at the same time. The barrage was followed by an Israeli raid, in which the soldiers were captured.
