Dennis Prager and Michael Medved comment on Mel Gibson
listen live ^ | July 31, 2006

Posted on 07/31/2006 11:30:41 AM PDT by EveningStar

I'm listening to Dennis Prager. Has anyone else been listening?

Earlier, he had Michael Medved on as a guest. They began by discussing the shootings in Seattle, where Medved lives. Then they shifted to Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic statements. Medved left, but Prager is continuing to discuss the issue.

Their comments have been nuanced and devoid of hysteria.

I imagine that Micheal will discuss this on his show today.

Also, Dennis said he would appear on Larry King's show to discuss a number of issues.

Medved:

Mel's remarks are indefensible.

Mel's alcoholism is a serious problem in itself.

There is a difference between what people to say while drunk, and what they say publicly. He condemns the hysteria by Abe Foxman and others.

Nothing Mel Gibson said changes the movie. The movie is not anti-Semitic

Jewish leaders should be more responsible in commenting on this. Saying that Mel's apology is unacceptable is stupid.

I won't accept the "I'm sorry if I offended anyone," apology, not from Hiltery, not from any other lib, and I won't from someone I like. He needs to say, "I'm sorry for being drunk and saying harsh and inflamitory things."

I think the only way for people to take Mel's apology seriously is if we see him seriously check himself into rehab and SERIOUSLY beat his booze addiction.

I don't take seriously about what someone says under the influence anymore than the guy with the lampshade on his head.

The phrase In vino, veritas comes to mind.

We must not see right or wrong, that would be knee jerk??????????????????????

No. Not at all. These guys are very moral. They just prefer intelligent discussion to irrational babbling.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. I don't like him. I think he is anti-Semitic. On the other hand, I don't know enough about alcoholism to know if one speaks the truth when they are on a binge. So far, I have not heard him apologize to Jewish people. He's just sorry he got caught. Now, you know what I really think.

Thanks. Heard it but got to FR late. I wnder if Mel had wiped out a little kid if he would have been saying f-ing Jews and sugar t*ts. I betcha that would have sobered him quickly. He needs to concentrate on his own selfish butt and quit worrying about the Jews. Or maybe he blames the Jews for his substance problem as well.

One can react sensibly or one can react stupidly.

It's the issue of what comes out of the heart in unprotected drunk moments that won't be forgotten IMO.

He may think these things while sober, but I doubt he would have ever said them.

Thank you for posting this and summarizing some of what was said. Is there other proof in Gibson's past to indicate he has ever made similar remarks, or has taken offensive actions against Jews?

Did he make the comments? Seems so. Does that make him a raving Jew hater? I don't know. The people reacting most visciously aren't exactly unbiased. It's a tough call.

Mel was lucky that he didn't kill anyone. His comments were horrible.

It's up to him to make amends. The apology is a beginning but he needs to follow through and rehabilitate himself.

Gibson blew a .12 and so while he was legally intoxicated, he certainly wasn't blitzed. He was drunk enough to tell us how he really feels, but not so drunk to claim he didn't know what he was saying.

Well stated. He had a loose tongue, but he wan't blitzed. He said what he feels.

Pandora's box has been opened and its too late for him to do anything about that.

If he was in political office, and had any power over my life, I would worry about it. But he doesn't, so I don't.

Same here. Mel's a good filmmaker who made an ass out of himself with too much booze. Let him pay for the DUI - he should pick papers up off the freeways - public service stuff.

30% of the people I grew up around said nearly the same thing when they were drunk. WHen they weren't drunk, you would not know they had any ill will toward anyone.

"And now Dennis has been able to enter the mind of the ADL spokesman?"

Why not?? Everyone here seems be able to enter the mind of Mel Gibson! What a bunch... The guy fell off the wagon and said some stupid sh!$, so what? Anyone who's ever been drunk has most likely done the same thing. Walk a mile in the mans shoes.

"Anyone who's ever been drunk has most likely done the same thing."

Race/religious hatred? Nah.... someone probably would have mentioned that to me after I sobered up.
