Screw artists and artisans. They tend to be left-wing wackos who are greasing the skids of America's fall.

Not all of them obviously but by and large.

A jack-of-all-trades is a powerful thing, and perhaps most valuable in industries built on specialties, but it takes many, many specialists to create, maintain, and exploit the technologies underlying the semiconductor industry, for example.

True, but what if the collapse predicted occurs? Do you think anyone, anywhere in the world will be able to sustain their hegemony for long? If America goes dark, so will the rest of the world. Furthermore, the article seems to suggest that it is our high levels of technology that is the important thing to life, comfort and the American way of life. It is critical to the (highly artificial) way of life we have right now - but it is not what life here is really all about. The problem outlined in the article exists, but it will not be the end of life. It may be what is needed to reinvent America along more traditional lines.

Well, let's see, I am experienced in farming and gardening with everything from a mule or draft horse to a small farm tractor. I think I could make Lye soap although I have only watched my mother do it. I can build a small house unassisted, including plumbing and electrical, provided I don't have any pesky building inspectors in the way. I can do electronic repair and I have a wide range of mechanical experience, I am a good shot with a rifle, I have a small backhoe loader and a pickup truck and trailer to haul it. I have chain saws and I can cut a tree and make boards with the chain saws. I know how to notch logs for a log building. I have laid new firebrick to repair a damaged fireplace. I could list a lot of other stuff but that ought to qualify me as a jack of all trades (and master of none, I suppose).

The demise of the ACLU, victocrats, bleeding hearts, welfare cheats, deadbeat dads, teen mothers, girlie men, snot-nosed punk-a$$ kids, rappers, jailbirds, childmolesters, and other groups who have arisen as a direct result of modern society almost cause one to look forward to the collapse of modern civilization.
