If Hastert resigns, the election is over--it's an admission of wrongdoing.

BUT--he won't resign, because he didn't do anything wrong--sorry, those e-mails were creepy but certainly not actionable.

On the other hand, if Hastert is good and pissed about this situation, as he should be, and comes out fighting the way George Allen SHOULD have when HE was smeared, this could be what completely demolishes the Dems' hopes this year.

Are you not paying attention? Have you not seen the polls? Allen is up ~everywhere~. Double digits if you believe Zogby (I know, it ain't that high).

Allen apologized for the macaca comment, because heck it was there on tape. But when the RATS came out with racist n-word, deer head charges, he hit back hard, and he continues to do so.

You're right. Hastert should fight. And George Allen showed him how.
