I am dumbfounded. My understanding is that the general weather patter of west-to-east is a result of coriolis force driven by the earth's rotation.

I don't think this is settled fact yet. Writers always tend to write their stories as though every scientific discovery is a set in stone law. Science is open to examination and debate.

I find this very hard to believe as well. The prevailing winds arise due to the Earth’s rotation, and ultimately due to conservation of momentum (or conservation of energy, or a rotating inertial frame — there are lots of ways to analyze it). To make the winds blow in the opposite direction would require adding massive amounts of energy to the system (which would heat the air, no?)

Well, DUH!

In utter violation of physics, the earth's rotation reversed as well!

That obviously reverses the Coriolis effect too!
