Also this debate has NOTHING to do with winning the war or improving our situation ...it is purely political jockeying and the taget is the Bush administration

I'm not sure.

Perhaps, you're right. But I'm not sure.

I understand your point but GW is trying to accomplish victory and let our soldiers do that with a change in tactics, additional troops and new battlefield leaders. Hagel would rather see our troops defeated than change tactics, and I see Noonan agreeing with him. To me, that is completely unacceptable.

Hagel has drawn a line in the sand and is standing on the wrong side of it, with our troops on the other, and there is Noonan patting Hagel on the back like he did good by doing that. It makes me sick to my stomach and Noonan is no better than John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, etc.

Chuck Hagel knows the lessons of Viet Nam. He was there. Purple Hearts. Real ones. You can discount the phonies but Senator Hagel is the real deal. We would be wise to listen and listen carefully.

Has anyone ever seen Peggy Noonan and Maureen Dowd in the same room at the same time?

Do you think Pelosi and Reid are going to do better protecting you and yours from another devastating attack like what happened on 9/11 but worse?

It doesn't matter what I think. Personally I wouldn't trust a politician of any stripe further than I could throw 'em. But another poster raised the point. This is what Senators are supposed to do. Discuss the points. Not just roll over for anything the Executive Branch says. Could Hagel have gone further? Perhaps. And I think it's becoming clear a Republican will eventually do so.

Gee..I'm not getting that at all. Maybe I should read it again. ;^)

I see Noonan simply patting Hagel on the head for his aforementioned speech on the Senate floor...simply pointing out what his position had been up to this point.

That she agrees that the Administration had no current plan to deal with the death squads and sectarian violence...well, what's wrong with that?

She has the benefit of 20/20 hindsight and Hagel is just the instrument to make her case.

Thanks for replying.

Before everyone derides her, there is a historical thread of isolationism within the conservative movement that, I think, she is reflecting.

She wanted to write the president's speeches? LOL!

I would have had one heck of a laugh if Bush had included this line in, right after he introduced "Madame Blinky";

"A note too on John Kerry, who, on the floor of the Senate, also talked about Iraq this week, and said he would not run for president. Clearly he saw the lipstick writing on the wall: This is the year of the woman."

then, (in my dreams) he could ad lib---->

"So, this morning, I signed an executive order sending Jon Cary back to France................"

Senator Hagel a Vietnam vet is dangerously coming close to becoming the Republicans version of John Kerry.

He should know better not to stand against his country with our chance at victory considering what he might have experienced in Vietnam. What makes Senator Hagel so blind to see the same behavior by the media and Democrats with the new Vietnamization of the war on terrorism?

Vietnam was not an urban war.

Hagel is not a strategist nor a tactician.

Therefore, I will ignore this rino-camera hog.

My question is where the hell has Hagel been during the years the Republicans had the majority? Not a peep out of anybody, no backbone whatsoever. And now he decides to grow a spine. Too little too late.

Why wasn't he sounding the trumpet to release our troops to execute this war and finish the job so that they could come home sooner?

If we're going to start calling traitors "brave" (and we're NOT, Peegy!) the closest thing to bravery was Russ Feingold wanting to really pull the funds instead of passing this whiny, seditious, enemy-encouraging resolution.

PLEASE remember that this Nebraska Senator made his money on plastic cards. He believes in complex ID cards for EVERYTHING.
He won't even consider an on-line Data Base. Trust in his Cards; that's his mantra.

I'm from Omaha and I don't. I want an On-Line & checkable Data-base!

Hagel's a coward. Courage is not a product of genetics but a strength of character. To support a non-binding resolution is just pandering to the mob. I watched the same thing Noonan did and I got the impression that the yellow streak down his back's starting to wear on him.

Maybe it was the fact that shortly he would be sending a general to Iraq (With his blessings) to do a job he is sleazing around the halls of Congress trying to undercut.

You expect as much from Teddy the swimmer or Dinghy Harry but from Hagel it's a sad spectacle.

Whatever courage he once had is long gone but he's got plenty of company inside the beltway.

To 57, listen to Hagel? Like this spineless rino is somehow making any sense? He may have guts we all do - I don't want my guts mixing with other guts by being blown up by some sandrat that listens Nagel or the many like him. He who keeps their head in sand gets his a$$ kicked. Stick around this ain't over yet.

Peggy seems to have become a 'finger to the wind' writer. Now they (whoever they are, I'm sure it's the pollsters) are saying women oppose President Bush, so she's not about to be left out. That would make her irrelevant, right?
