Coach told players to 'check their manhood'

LEEDS, Maine (AP) - A high school basketball coach was fired after telling his players at halftime to reach into their pants to "check their manhood," administrators said.

Leavitt Area High School Principal Patrick Hartnett said coach Mike Remillard told the varsity boys Jan. 23 that "tonight's game was about who had the biggest (male genitalia) in town." "He then required his players to all stand up and put their hands down their pants and check their manhood," Hartnett said in the statement, which was read to school board members Thursday by Superintendent Thomas J. Hanson a day after the coach was dismissed.

All but one player followed the coach's instructions, Hartnett said. The team won the game.

I'm not sure how this demonstrates that he "cares about the development of young boys into men," but I can't see how this was a traumatic event either.

Everything I really needed to know to get along in this world, I learned playing sports. I learned hard work really does pay dividends, how to deal with setbacks, how to deal with success, how to empathize with others, and how to work as a member of a team. I also learned that it is a hell of a lot more fun to be a winner.

If this were a woman coach telling her players to get in touch with their feelings, it would be OK.

And what is wrong with that? Why are the words testify, testimony, testicles used? They are derived from the Latin. And it would seem that the ancient Romans had the same custom, as did the ancients when Abraham directed that his servant place his hand under his thigh, (the expression is a euphemism for testicles) as was the custom then when one swore or took an oath, before going off to find a wife for Isaac. Being that it is almost impossible to fire a Teacher in a public school, what exactly was he fired for? , and how was it done so fast? Maybe the same process can be applied to the dead weight section of teachers elsewhere.
