So our politicians put

1) the stupid slim possibility of new voters (actually hispanics are 2/1 dem to repub historically)

2) big business demands and contributions or

3) an attempt to cover up their incompetince by doing something even if it was wrong

over what is right for america and americans

...no moral or ethical compass to guide them, wrought with incompetence, with a few outstanding exceptions, we are now a corrupt third world country and only the people can save it.

The dirty secret of the Republican party is that it's STILL beholden to big business interests, no matter how little we discuss that fact here.

First off, there was what he referred to as the "Rovian School of thought," which says that passing this bill would capture the Hispanic vote for the GOP for decades to come.

Oh my goodness! This is the same genius that invented the Hurricane Machine and manipulates voting machines all over the country from his living room? He couldn't possibly be that shortsighted, could he? He totally has the pulse on everything. I mean he was totally right about the 2006 midterm elections!

Errr Wait....

Oh yeah. Nevermind.

Three reasons but what was Bush’s reason? To be a uniter? Compassion? A liberal at heart? Some North American economic trade bloc?

I believe Bush is doing this out of a sense of compassion based on his religious beliefs—which, if true, would be an ironic comment on his touting of those beliefs being the source of so much conservative support.

Some North American economic trade bloc?

Unless he has some super futuristic vision that says that letting the USA get overrun by Mexicans and kumbayaing with Canada will head off something even worse. Maybe Bush thinks a pan-American government would stand up better to Islamic onslaught, but that would not be possible because he calls it a religion of pieces (er, peace).

You’re absolutely right about the difficulties of immigrating to this country legally.

I have friends in Europe (mostly Romanians and a French friend) who have tried to come to the US. They are all fluent in Englihs and all have at least a university degree; some have a master’s. Engineers, accountants, teachers, and a lawyer. People who would pay for themselves and bring valuable skills to our country.

But our country would seem to give preference to uneducated, illiterate law breakers who committed fraud by forging documents to work in our nation.

Sadly, my French friend just gave up and moved to Canada, where they were more than happy to have her—and made that clear in a speedy manner.

Our system, as Romney put it, is upside down. Even if you don’t support him, you can’t argue with that statement.

These friggin morons thought millions of dirt-poor, uneducated Mexican peasants, who nearly put the socialist Obrador in power in their own country, would vote for the REPUBLICANS for DECADES out of gratitude???

Oh come on, it works the same way that the socialist ovatures to the black community greatly improved the percentage of blacks voting Republican. Remember??

Yeah, like appointing Colin Powell and Condi Rice to the highest post ever achieved by a black person (Secretary of State) gained Bush and the GOP the support of blacks.

I’m not convinced that it’s really dead yet! If the present Congress never again agrees to pass this “mess” of legislation during the remainder of their term and the present President never gets to sign this “mess” of legislation ever during the remainder of his term, then I will truly be convinced that it’s dead!

Unfortunately, there is a massive insulation from his personal beliefs and the reality we, particularly in the border states, have to deal with. He won't ever have to deal with MS-13, nor being displaced from a roofing or construction job. Business continues as usual for the beneficiaries of The Dynasty.

It's very easy to see how one with his professed religious beliefs would put allowing more people into the country in order to have better lives than they would back home over business considerations. I don't recall the Bible saying anything about it being a sin to enter a country illegally.

I'm certainly not advocating this point of view, merely speculatin'.
