The bill died because NOBODY liked the compromise.

The Republican Party's "Blue Bloods" lost in their showndown with the "Blue Collar" stiffs - ordinary Americans worried about jobs, their children's future, their country's national identity and its survival. The Blue Collar Crowd didn't care about cheap labor, political correctness and ethnic pandering so dear to the hearts of the Blue Bloods. They just said "NO!" And so the amnesty bill the Blue Bloods tried to ram down the Blue Collar throats died an unlamented death.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

These friggin morons thought millions of dirt-poor, uneducated Mexican peasants, who nearly put the socialist Obrador in power in their own country, would vote for the REPUBLICANS for DECADES out of gratitude???

They just wanted to own some minority votes too, like the democrats.

The old gradtitude ploy. Without Republican backing the 1964 Civil Rights Bill would never have passed. The Republicans have been awash in gratitude from a minority goup ever since.

Let’s work to get legal immigration through in a more timely manner and with a lot less cost.

You'll never live to see the day; the lawyers have a lock on the whole deal, and that's the way they intend to keep it. If congress dared to make legal immigration more streamlined, why, all those poor lawyers would take it right in the wallet.

As with many other things; follow the money.

My wife and her family are legal citizens and residents.

You are absolutely correct. The system goes out of it's way to make the legalization process punitive, and it pretty much reinforces the "illegal" path. Trapped in a nightmarish socialist bureaucratic process for years (as long at 8 in some cases makes it very difficult for people to consider when they are able to simply "slide by" thanks to criminal negligence on the part of our "leaders".

Still, they did it legally. It is a slap in the face to every new citizen in this country for the government to suddenly give amnesty to these criminals. Digusting, and we will work to make each one of them pay a political price.

I don't recall the Bible saying anything about it being a sin to enter a country illegally.

I'm sure there is something in the Bible about obeying the civil laws of wherever you are at.

I don't recall reading any such passage other than "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's". Why would the Bible include a passage saying "Obey the laws of the land" since that's not really the concerns of the Bible authors?

I just have to shake my head; people don’t go beyond the surface of things, anymore. They just take whatever junk comes out of the TV and call it “truth” with no analysis whatsoever.

I grew up in Anaheim, and I want to tell you something, because I remember Cinco de Mayo in the 19070’s; it was a great time for everyone, as people got together and celebrated the cultural heritage of our hispanic neighbors. White people could go to Santa Ana and enjoy the big fiesta and it was just a huge party. My grandfather went into construction in the late 1920’s and worked his way from the bottom up; one of his last jobs was as Superintendent of a DoD contract building munitions warehouses in Yuma, AZ. During his years in construction, he worked alongside many men who had come across the border from the south; most of them not legally. BUT — and this is the HUGE difference — those people came here with EVERY INTENTION OF BECOMING AMERICANS. They wanted to be a part of this country, to learn English, to keep a good job, to make money, and to give their children an American heritage. They wanted to assimilate, and they did. They considered themselves Americans who had come from Mexico, not displaced Mexicans living in America.

Not so much now. Oh, you’ll find some who still have that mindframe, but not many, and especially not among the younger men. More and more people are buying into the lies, that it’s us white people keeping them down; that we’re a nation of bigots. Ha, if they want someone to blame, if they want to see bigotry, they need look no farther than the ranks of corrupt politicians and local government officials back home. Oh, and Cinco de Mayo isn’t the big American excuse for a block party that it used to be, it’s morphing into an excuse for Mexican nationalisitc expressions of anger, and getting mixed up with militant notions of a reconquista and crap like that.

By all reason, both coasts of Mexico ought to look like an enlarged version of Florida, with hotels, spas, restaurants, golf courses, and recreation of all kinds. But there’s comparatively little. Why? Mexican domestic policy makes foreign investment very unattractive, where it’s possible at all. If just that ONE thing were changed, there could be tens of thousands of service industry jobs all up and down BOTH coasts of Mexico employing and enriching Mexican citizens in their OWN country, a country that would be on its way to raising itself to First World status. But nobody in the Mexican government has the stature; the respect among the people, and the strength of character to drive such a change all the way through. There are too many years of graft and corruption, and too many layers of government people with a keen interest in keeping things just the way they are.

And, in the end, who gets the shaft?? The same people who got the shaft when the Conquistadores showed up.

I tell you, it makes me angry that we can spend billions half way around the world to deliver a well-deserved kick to one dictator’s ass, but we can’t bring ourselves to exert overt pressure on the Mexican government to clean up their messy house and make life more hopeful for the people of Mexico. Instead, our government wants 300 million U.S. citizens to accept the mess as “the cost of doing business” or some such inanity. It makes me angry that everyone is going to be mad at “all of those racist Americans” when the keys to the problem are in Mexico City, and Washington D.C.

Mexico has so much going for it in terms of geography, natural resources, climate — Mexico should be a booming First World, agricultrural, industrial, tourism powered nation, but it’s not, and that’s a sad and frustrating state of affairs; for everyone.

Okay, how about “don’t lie” and “don’t steal”? Those are commandments, sins, and descriptions of the process of becoming an illegal alien.

But Christians are always helping the homeless, prison inmates, and even illegal aliens who are sneaking into the country.

Great post thanks! I visited LA for 10 days in 1984 and it was completely pleasant. We went to Mexican areas and their restaurants with no problem. I wouldn’t do it these days

I will not give money to the RNC or the Michigan GOP for that very reason. I directly target candidates that I feel believe in the things that I believe. I received one call from the RNC during the immigration fiasco. I state, “no on immigration” and hung up.

DeMint is awesome.
He sticks to his guns. He was on Dennis Miller yesterday and said he finally ran for office (he had been a businessman) because he got sick and tired of complaining and nothing happening, so he decided he had to take action himself.

The CoC is not particularly big business interests as much as the smaller business associations, they are a powerful lobby, similar to AARP, and have a tendancy to support medium side service industries....IMO the CoC and some of the other Associations, Restaurant, Hotel, Construction, etc., should be investigated for unfair labor practices, collusion and even RICO conspiracy for their failure to abide by our immigration laws. Let them know you are aware of their thievery and will not use any member’s services and products....they need to be held accountable.

It ain’t dead. FOX News says that the “Masters of the Universe” want to bring it back in “a couple of weeks”.

WE STILL HAVE MUCH WORK TO DO.

There seems to be a Sept announcement of some North American Union in the works. Haven’t heard much about it, but I’d guess amnesty was a large part of the plan.
