Yes, what they did to the Armenians during WWI was wrong, but that was 90 years ago and those who did that are dead and gone. The current government does not massacre Armenians and in fact is one of our few ME allies. Just why Congress is bring this up NOW is beyond me. Are they going to breeze through history and label every event like this? I think we can tell right from wrong (and left), and we don’t need Congress to do it for us. The current Turkish government is not that of the 1910s and we shouldn’t be turning our allies against us. But since the Dems can’t get the troops to withdraw, they have no choice...
Well gee golly.......the ol’ Democrat Party-controlled Congress once again shows that they simply have WAAAAAAAY too much time on their hands.
Hmmm.......resolutions against a radio talk show host (Rush), now one of our few ME allies over ‘injustices’ in the early 20th century.....so what’s next? Let’s project our own list, shall we?
1. Hal Roach for the Little Rascals serials. Obviously racist.
2. England.....because we fought ‘em a couple of times early in our history. Obviously deplorable bastards.
3. France...........well..........never mind.
4. McDonald’s........they make too much money and force us to eat their food until we become fat and puffy
5. WalMart.......just FAR too much $$$........and obviously on the backs of the poor and disadvantaged.
6. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese......just because.
7. Fox News Channel.......because they don’t kiss enough Democrat butt
8. Any and all American arms manufacturers.......need I even explain why?
9. NASA......way too rich a history of spectacular achievements in their past; too much ‘flag waving’ stuff
10. Wall Street......too greedy, too white
Please......feel free to add your own “Necessary Resolution” to save the Dems from any further brainwork.
“Just why Congress is bring this up NOW is beyond me.”
As I told someone else on this thread, it’s a resolution that has come up every year for decades and always killed because our government didn’t want to offend Turkey by calling them on it.
But now they’ve got enough Republican and Democrat votes to pass it. I don’t care about possible motives of some of the Democrats. The point is it’s the right thing to do and it’s long overdue.
If the German government never admitted to the Holocaust, this country would be outraged and a resolution of this type would be widely supported. What I don’t understand is the double standard when it comes to Turkey.
