WASHINGTON, (AP) -- Mel Martinez, the public face of the Republican National Committee as its general chairman, announced Friday he was stepping down from his post after serving only 10 months.
"I believe that our future as a party and nation is bright and I have every intention of continuing to fight for our president, our party, and our candidates," the Florida senator said in a statement.
He said he was relinquishing the post to spend more time focusing on his constituents, and because the RNC reached the objective it set out to when he assumed the role last fall.

Mel Martinez turned his back on the US after stabbing the country in the heart. The very country that gave him his freedom and a second chance at life! His open border/total amnesty advocacy and attacking legal immirgrants was the last straw. He, as well as others, are getting wined and dined by the scum mex lobbyist.
The lowlife needs to resign from the Senate, give up his citizenship and swim back to the waiting arms of Castro.
Next, all of the GOP “entities” truly need to be fully staffed with “pro-enforcement of all of the present laws that deal with illegal immigration” individuals. If this truly happens and “pro-enforcement” is fully promoted and fully pushed, then the support monies will truly start to come in in decent numbers for all GOP causes!
I hope somebody sticks Newt in there...
