Wouldn’t your theory require that one event occur in the Northern hemisphere and one in the Southern hemisphere?
Curious? Do you remember the tsunami in indonesia (southern hemisphere) and the effects monitored around the world. If I recall, the earth actually changed shape, albeit slightly and for a short time.
I never did hear if it had an effect on plate tectonics. Lots of questions, few answers.
