It’s several magnitudes more detailedand advanced as well as useful, but it isn’t the first map of magnetic anomolies of the planet. I remember seeing a much less detailed map created from satellite data in 1980.
But no matter. That was created from slow digital work, but it’s kind of lacking in the same way that the early maps of the Cosmic Background Radiation differ from the modern maps of that discovery the most modern.
