Islamists target Arizona base
The Washington Times ^ | November 26, 2007 | Sara A. Carter

Fort Huachuca, the nation's largest intelligence-training center, changed security measures in May after being warned that Islamist terrorists, with the aid of Mexican drug cartels, were planning an attack on the facility.

Fort officials changed security measures after sources warned that possibly 60 Afghan and Iraqi terrorists were to be smuggled into the U.S. through underground tunnels with high-powered weapons to attack the Arizona Army base, according to multiple confidential law enforcement documents obtained by The Washington Times.

"A portion of the operatives were in the United States, with the remainder not yet in the United States," according to one of the documents, an FBI advisory that was distributed to the Defense Intelligence Agency, the CIA, Customs and Border Protection and the Justice Department, among several other law enforcement agencies throughout the nation. "The Afghanis and Iraqis shaved their beards so as not to appear to be Middle Easterners."

According to the FBI advisory, each Middle Easterner paid Mexican drug lords $20,000 "or the equivalent in weapons" for the cartel's assistance in smuggling them and their weapons through tunnels along the border into the U.S. The weapons would be sent through tunnels that supposedly ended in Arizona and New Mexico, but the Islamist terrorists would be smuggled through Laredo, Texas, and reclaim the weapons later.

A number of the Afghans and Iraqis are already in a safe house in Texas, the FBI advisory said.

Fort Huachuca, which lies about 20 miles from the Mexican border, has members of all four service branches training in intelligence and secret operations. About 12,000 persons work at the fort and many have their families on base.

All the data and common sense reflects that the cartels are trying to divert attention away from the border.

Yet this article, published by a very un-reliable source, says that the cartels are facilitating an event that would not just draw more attention to the border, but would also raise that attention to another level.

“The cartels have no loyalty to any nation or person. It isn’t surprising that for the right price they would assist terrorists, knowingly or unknowingly.”

If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.

We spend almost 5 yrs in Ft. Huachuca, and it is beyond me how this could happen. The Installation has a oversized plymp flying at all times to monitor these activities. What a shame/

I figured this would stay buried, but it was just reported on Fox News.

Never thought it would get this much exposure.

Is that anything like a blimp?

Per FOX news just now...

Their prime source was reliable!...the other source may have had ulterior motives, but the prime source is reliable.

I have a hard time believing this - if there was a threat to this country involving our borders, I am 100% sure that President Bush would have secured our borders!!! I can't believe you all saying such bad things about him!!!!

(I tried not to laugh while typing the above, but it was too hard).

Unfortunately it will take a serious attack before the folks in the White House care about the border, and even then I think they will just make things more difficult on Americans than on those who want to cross the borders...It's pretty dadgum clear that some folks with a lot of money and/or influence want the borders as open as possible. All we have are votes - they've got money which gets them the ears of whoever they want to talk to.

Any women & children at this base?

Thousands...there are three elementary schools on post, and an off-post high school with approximately 2500 students enrolled.

My next door neighbor has a cousin whose illegitimate stepchild(red-headed) is married to woman who works for the Hudspeth County Sheriff and their intelligence sources say that terrorists are going to try to blow up several railroad bridges across the Rio Bravo to disrupt wheat and corn shipments.

After that, they plan to move on to the upper Texas and Louisiana coasts to attack the petrochemical infrastructure in that area.

After that they will go on to Florida and target US Central Command facilities in that state.

After that, Brother Raul will have numerous Cigarettes waiting offshore in which they will escape to Cuba.

This story keeps popping up a little too often for comfort.

It was carried by a Tucson TV station two weeks ago, I suspect the Washington paper just picked it up from there...

Fox News had a report on this situation this morning. They had a former FBI Special Agent on as well as the post commander for Fort Huachuca. I TIVO’d and may be able to get the report up on YouTube later. I don’t think that Fox found or reported any new information.

I saw this...

..and as I told Ben Ficklin, who seems to think the 'source' is not reliable...

..FOX stands by the main source as being reliable.
