I don’t know. Having lived and worked in that area several times in my life I have to think they mixed in with what are now the Lumbee Indians. Very unique looking people.
Unique looking features have more to do with what is called “the founders effect” than intermarriage with Europeans.
I’ve always believed that the Croatoans got most of them but the rest are the ancestors of the melungeons. I vaguely remember a post on ggg about a DNA study of melungeons but can’t find it now.
