Let’s see, we already got rid of Abraham Lincoln’s day, let’s get rid of George Washington’s birthday or possibly the 4th of July or Memorial Day.
I would suggest we get rid of the 4th of July next - not literally of course - we'd be short one day in the month of July.
Here in Sacramento Kalifornia, if you choose to celebrate your 'freedom' by lighting a firecracker, you will serve a mandatory jail sentence and pay a large fine.
Seems pretty stupid to be celebrating independence and freedom since we have neither any longer, so why the need for the holiday other than an excuse for retailers to have 'big-blam-boom-sales'?
yes exactly! We eliminated Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays as separate observances, for an expedient and generic “President’s Day”...
Then we allowed February to be named “Black History Month”, thus overshadowing/crowding out “President’s Day” to the point where it is essentially a footnote among the mainstream, anathema to “dead-white guy” - hating Liberals, and celebrated only among real patriots.
And finally we allowed the lionizing of a single black man’s birthday in January, a person who was known to have been violent with, and philandered on his wife.
I don’t mind a black man having his birthday observed as a holiday - but let it be a more worthy figure such as George Washington Carver, or Frederick Douglass, and for heaven’s sake, restore to Lincoln and Washington their own observance days.
As for Chavez - he is a non-starter.
I would no more observe a holiday for him than I would for Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, Mexican Gen. Santa Ana (of Alamo infamy) or either one of the Castro brothers. One makes as little sense as any of the others.
A.A.C.
(wondering if the C. Chavez holiday is already on the “nation of Aztlan” yearly calendars at ‘La Raza’ HQ?)
