I am the grammarian about whom your mother warned you ;-). (And the state spelling champion of Virginia, 1984.)

On the real point, no, I do not agree that any part of the Constitution ok’s sexual slavery ... nor abortion, sodomy, prostitution, indiscriminate promiscuity, or a whole bunch of other cr*p that we’re told are “rights” these days.

LOL...feel free to correct me anytime. (Or should that be any time?)

It has occurred to me that the large number of FReepers up in arms over the perceived "trashing" (that word used a lot) of the First Amendment seemed to be men. Just wondered how many women felt the same way. I know of one who thinks that "polygamy is a beautiful thing", but she is the only one I've encountered so far.

“Why anyone would even want to appear to be defending this group in any fashion is totally beyond my comprehension. “

I think it is pretty clear, from the words in DONEIT’s first post, that he/she wasn’t DEFENDING THIS GROUP whatsoever.

Please try to reread the first post, and see if you can’t truly comprehend what was being said.

It was a general comment about “IN TODAYS WORLD, one needs to...” thing.

Posters who responded asked What DONEIT meant, and DONEIT provided further clarification. I think that response was clear.

This was while you and others were busy trying to research DONEIT’s FR HISTORY and HOMEPAGE.

Well, I am not a Mormon, I do not support Polygamy and I'm happy that this action was taken and, apparently, successful.

I also do not trust the Government blindly - In fact, I distrust it most circumstances (Not this one though - Before more Flames errupt)

“On the contrary, they left the Catholic Church in the dust a long time ago. “

Rather than debate that issue, let’s say that they leaders of both ‘religions’ seem to like rolling around in the dirt.

Well, if you hear it, you might want to see if you are on fire.

I think that there are certain historical conditions that tend to encourage the development of a polygamous society. The large number of single women converts to the LDS faith in its early years is an example. Once men in authority discover the advantages to themselves, the system can become strongly established, for obvious reasons.

As a student of history, I’m not flummoxed by the continued existence of polygamy per se. Aside from polygamy’s simply being illegal in the United States, it is the additional elements in this group’s behavior that are truly egregious. The same is true of the practice of polygamy by some Moslems in the U.S. - it’s not just the multiple wives, but the abuse of young girls and women, the marginalization of young men, the exploitation of the welfare system, and so on. As others have pointed out, some of these factors are also found in (shall we say) multi- or sequential- partner relationships with no claim to marital status.

I’ve known a number of women who have agreed that there could be practical advantages in polygamy for women - help with child rearing and housekeeping, a social network, additional (ahem) accommodations for the husband when one is exhausted from childbearing or illness ... I think these factors are noticed by women in our culture, where we don’t have the extended family networks and close communities that once supported families and particularly mothers of young children.

“So what’s your other account name?”

IF I have one, will you crucify me too?

“Why did doneit feel it necessary to use two accounts?”

Don’t know.

Did DONEIT post the article under one ID, then post using another?

Is it worth making an issue about, when the main problem is that certain posters have decided to ‘read into’ DONEIT’s first post, more than is there?

Please point out where rape is part of the teachings of the Catholic church.

What an incredibly stupid and bigoted “comparison”.

In 1953 Arizona Governor Howand Pyle, a close friend and associate of future Senator Barry Goldwater, raided Short Creek (now called Colorado City) to stop the practice of polygamy. The voters promptly unGovernored him.

“Please point out where rape is part of the teachings of the Catholic church.”

Rape is not part of the teachings of Jeff Warren, either.

However, in both religions, an abundance of rape has occurred.

Done in the guise of religion.

So it is actually a very valid comparison.

And.... it isn’t limited to Catholic Priests, if that’s what is bothering you.

It is not the religion, it is the abuse of authority within the practice of religion.

Actually, one might consider the practices of Jeff Warren and crew to be more inline with Islamic religion.

Warren and crew have a ways to go to catch up to the volume and history of the Islamic religion’s habitual child abuse.

(is that better?)

Personal observation? What's your source for the "teachings" of Warren Jeffs? If rape were not in his "teachings" it would not be happening in the FLDS compound. Or do you not consider sex between a 12-year-old child and an adult male to be rape?

Yep, they call the government “the beast”. They file for benefits as single mothers to “bleed the beast”. For every dollar that they pay in taxes, they receive $8 in benefits. They like to bleed the beast.

Apparently, it was the MEDIA and the PR office of the MORMON church (or FLDS branch) that put a stop to the LEO investigations, back then.

From the article:

“The last time Arizona officials focused their attention on the FLDS homeland was a notorious raid in 1953. That action turned into a public relations debacle as pictures circulated of children being pulled from their mothers. Afterward, authorities left the FLDS to police themselves.”
