The dark side of the moon is dark in the sense that Africa was the dark continent, that dark matter is dark, and that black boxes are black:

It is unseen. The moon’s rotational period is equal to its orbital period, so the same side faces the Earth.

OF course, there’s also a dark side in the sense of day and nigh, also/... and the moon’s days are 29 times longer than ours!
