Black 'conservatives' blasted for pro-Obama remarks
Onenewsnow ^ | June 19, 2008 | Jeff Johnson and Chad Groening

Two black conservatives -- one a pastor, the other a leader of an urban ministry -- say they can't understand why a number of black Republicans have publicly said they are considering voting for Barack Obama this election. It should be about character, they say, not skin color.

Ken Hutcherson, an African-American pastor in suburban Seattle, says black conservatives who are supporting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama must remember what they have been saying about race for decades.

Several prominent conservative African-Americans have said they are at least considering supporting Obama because of his race. The list includes talk-show host Armstrong Williams, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and former Congressman J.C. Watts (R-Oklahoma). But Pastor Hutcherson of Antioch Bible Church cannot believe what the purportedly conservative leaders are saying.

Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny in Los Angeles, concurs. He says he doesn't care about being part of an historic moment.

"There's no way that I can vote for Barack Obama simply because of a historic moment and he is a black man. That doesn't make sense to me," he says. "We should judge people based on character and not color or historic moment."

Everybody knows this but nobody wants to talk about it. People better start talking about it before it gets carried away and harder to stop.

Thank God for these two men.
I've been asking for months: When 98% of the Black Community votes for the ONLY Black Candidate in a crowded Primary field, ISN'T THT RACIST?

I would expect nothing better from Colin Powell.

It is as bad to vote for an unqualified candidate because of his race as it would be to vote against a qualified candidate because of his race.

I would never have voted for “Her Thighness” just because of the historic moment of a woman running for president.

I could vote for Dr Rice (black, female, unknown religion,Californian) rather than Ted Kennedy (white, male,Irish,"Catholic" Bostonian...just like me) in a heartbeat.

If I can do it...others should be able to.

(Please note, however, that I'm a *real* Catholic...not one of these "Ten Suggestions" types).

Thank God Powel’s wife didn’t let him run for President. We really dodged a bullet there.

The problem is there is no alternative to Obama.

Roger that. He's been off my trusted list since before Bush 43 took office.

Good for them! I’m flabbergasted by the list of so-called conservatives who would even consider voting for an anti-American, death-eating Marxist, simply because he had a black father.

Did any well-known conservative women say they considered voting for Hitlery?

I'm glad to read this about "the Hutch." He talks the talk AND walks the walk.

His Superbowl predictions to Rush last year were right on the money. Great guy!

Good point. However, I don’t recall her doing it because Hillary is a woman. Maybe it was all some bizarre joke that I didn’t get.

COMMUNITY DEFINED: “A social group of any size whose members have a common cultural and historical heritage.”

The “Black Community” would be the Blacks living in America just like the “White Community” would be the Whites living in America, the “Asian Community”.........the “Hispanic Community”..............the “Native American” Community....

Don’t bother thanking me; I’m here to help you.
