Gore Wants U.S. to Abandon Fossil Fuels by 2018
New York Times ^ | July 18, 2008 | David Stout

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Al Gore said on Thursday that Americans must abandon fossil fuels within a decade and rely on the sun, the winds and other environmentally friendly sources of power, or risk losing their national security as well as their creature comforts.

“The survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk,” Mr. Gore said in a speech to an energy conference here. He called for the kind of concerted national effort that enabled Americans to walk on the moon 39 years ago this month, just eight years after President John F. Kennedy famously embraced that goal.

Mr. Gore said the goal of producing all of the nation’s electricity from “renewable energy and truly clean, carbon-free sources” within 10 years is not some farfetched vision, although he said it would require fundamental changes in political thinking and personal expectations.

“This goal is achievable, affordable and transformative,” Mr. Gore said in remarks prepared for the conference. “It represents a challenge to all Americans, in every walk of life — to our political leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, engineers, and to every citizen.”

>....you can’t just throw a switch and get it. Power “on demand” will not be cheap.

Natural gas turbines are pretty quick, and not outrageously expensive.

* Make all “carbon credit” scams unlawful. Discrediting Algore should have been a slam-dunk a long time ago. Stop electing Reps who buy into the Global Warming / Global Cooling / Climate Change Hoax. CO2 is not our enemy!

LetsRok: The turbines only generate electricity when they are turning and cannot be stored.

Izzy Dunne: Do you mean the electricity cannot be stored? What do you use to start your car?

How many lead acid batteries would it take to store enough electricity to power 1,000 homes on demand for the 70% of the time the wind isn't blowing?

With about 52% of the nation’s electricity presently coming from coal, that’s an awful lot of pipe that’ll need laying.

"I don't think windmills are efficient. Coal to oil liquefaction is part of the solution."

We don't have a coal to oil plant in our yard, and waiting for the government to act will probably find me in my grave before cheaper energy is available. We can have a windmill and save as much as 80% of our electric costs next month, without government doing a darn thing.

What about natural gas or the trillion barrels oil in of oil shale that Democrats have banned from development. 250 million cars run on gasoline in the U.S. and these 250 million cars need that gasoline from oil shale, coal to oil , OCS, ANWR etc as these cars can't run on windmills but are gasoline cars TODAY,tomorrow and for 10 years after tomorrow.

Coal to oil liquefaction is part of the solution to high gas prices. The U.S. has 300 years of coal. Also nuclear power plants, and oil shale which has a trillion barrels of oil and which is now off limits as congress banned development of oil shale in the Western U.S.

The Republican bill, the Gas Price Reduction Act needs to be passed by Congress. It in part will lift the Democrat bans on 118 billion barrels of oil in the outer Continental Shelf and it will also lift the ban on a trillion barrels of oil in oil shale in the Western United States which no one knows about. Democrats of course will try to stop this bill. Please call Republican Mitch McConnell to thank him for pushing this bill and please send these links to everyone.

Mitch McConnell:' Just before the July 4th holiday, 44 Republicans introduced the Gas Price Reduction Act, a series of proposals to increase American energy production' .

"The 'Find More' provisions(in the bill) include increased exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf, where states want it, and lifting the ban on western oil shale exploration.

"We should also lift the ban on oil shale development which the new Democrat Congress enacted last year. Our western states are sitting on a sea of oil three times as large as the oil reserves in Saudi Arabia. Yet, at the insistence of the Democrat majority, we aren't allowed to touch it. They've put a 100 percent ban on oil shale exploration. With gas prices at more than $4 a gallon, this prohibition makes no sense.

U.S. Oil Shale Resources Are Three Times Larger Than the Current Oil Reserves in Saudi Arabia( 1 trillion barrels of oil). YET CONGRESS RECENTLY VOTED TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO DEVELOP U.S. OIL SHALE RESOURCES

Shell had to go to dangerous Middle East Country of Jordan to develop a much smaller by orders of magnitude amount of oil shale but Shell can't touch the trillion barrels of oil in our oil shale in our own back yard in Colorado, proof:

Yes you can store electricity but have you ever tried to run your car from New York to Wash DC on your starter? How long did it take you given all the recharges?

Thanks for your help.

1 - Al, when will YOU quit using more fossil fuel than any 20 American citizens?

2 - Al, why did you decide it was necessary to lie about global warming?

3 - Al, are you going to be a General in Obama’s Brown Shirt army?

4 - Al, have you ever examined technology development and the transition and adoption process, throughout an entire culture? (Does the significance of deploying a supporting infrastructure even occur to you?)
